Walkthrough

    Begin the battle by using Power Jump or Smash on Hooktail.

    If Attack FX R is equipped, Hooktail's stats will be reduced.

    Use Power Bounce repeatedly until Hooktail's HP is depleted.

    Warning: Do NOT accept any offers from Hooktail, regardless of the amount of coins offered, as it will result in you being smashed.

    Hooktail will then eat some of the audience, healing 10 HP.

    Continue using Power Bounce on your next turn if equipped.
Tips
  • Jumps are ineffective against Hooktail without Attack FX R equipped, requiring approximately twenty full turns instead of five.
  • Your partners' Attack stat is 1 unless you have upgraded in Rogueport.
  • Hooktail's audience members heal it for 10 HP when eaten.
  • You will learn the new special move Earth Tremor.
  • Your maximum SP will increase to 2.
  • Koops's father will give you the Crystal Star, which he found in Hooktail's stomach.

Chapter 1 Interlude:

After the battle, Mario searches for the Crystal Star. Hooktail eventually vomits up a blue Koopa shell and a star-shaped crystal. A Koopa emerges from the shell, and Koops recognizes him as his father. Koops's dad explains he found the Crystal Star in Hooktail's stomach and gives it to you.

Chapter End:

At the end of Chapter 1, you will be prompted to save your game.

Peach's Interlude:

Peach is held captive by Grodus and his henchmen. She is taken to a room with a computer named TEC-XX (who asks to be called TEC). TEC, created by Grodus, claims to be the perfect computer but feels a strange connection to Peach. Peach reluctantly suggests TEC is in love with her. TEC promises to grant her a wish if she teaches him about love. Peach's wish is to send a message, after which TEC returns her to her room.

Bowser's Interlude:

Bowser is summoned by Kammy, who informs him that Mario is seeking the Crystal Stars. Kammy mentions a picnic, angering Bowser. A Magikoopa reports that Bowser is out of a job because Peach has been kidnapped by someone else. Bowser then flies off in his helicopter, followed by Kammy.
