Guide to Quake II's Detention Center Revisited. Learn how to destroy the security grid, find the yellow laser control computer, and grab the Grenade Launcher.
Alright, you're back at the Detention Center and it's time to get serious. Your main goal here is to destroy the security grid surrounding the industrial region. Don't forget, there's also a secondary objective: find the yellow laser control computer. Keep an eye out for secrets, though it looks like there are none to find in this particular run.
First things first, you need to backtrack to that door that required the red Key Card. Head on through it. You'll go down a corridor, and if you're hurting for armor, there's a Flak Jacket waiting for you. Keep pushing forward into a room that has a grate in the floor. Take the door on your right. Ahead of you is another corridor, and to your left, some stairs. Head up those stairs, then immediately go down another flight of stairs that will be on your right. Down here, you'll find a new toy: the Grenade Launcher. This thing is pretty sweet, but remember to aim a little high when you lob those rounds – they have a bit of an arc.
You'll start noticing the Strogg are getting thicker the deeper you go, and yeah, the game is ramping up the difficulty. Hang in there, though; it gets way crazier in about five more levels. For now, head back up the stairs you just came down and take the corridor on the left. This will lead you to an elevator. Ride it up. Once you're out, you'll see some yellow lasers on your right. The computer you need to interact with is on the left. Use it to disable those yellow lasers, and bam! Your objective will update. Looks like you need to head back to the Security Complex to wrap this level up.
