Mutants in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat - Enhanced Edition come in a variety of forms, each with unique behaviors and attack patterns. Understanding these creatures is key to survival in the Zone.
- Boars: These wild boars have a claw attack and will charge and circle their prey. Shotguns are effective, with a couple of shots usually being enough to take them down.
- Flesh: Mutated pigs that typically wander in small packs. They lack special attacks, and a few shotgun blasts will dispatch them.
- Blind Dogs: Characterized by very fast claw attacks, they tend to attack in packs. Simply shooting them is effective, and climbing on rocks or other elevated objects can provide a safe vantage point.
- Pseudo Dogs: These dogs can spawn phantom dogs that do no harm but make it difficult to distinguish the real pseudo dog. Sniping them from a distance is recommended, or using shotguns at close range.
- Snorks: Humanoid mutants that crawl on all fours and leap at players. Assault rifles are recommended for engaging them from a distance.
- Hamsters: New in this release, these are fast, zombie-like rats that are easily killed with one or two shots from most weapons.
- Blood Suckers: Invisible, fast, and arguably the most dangerous mutants. They attempt to sneak up and attack with claws or by grabbing players. Sniping from a distance or using a shotgun up close are viable tactics.
- Burers: Fat, dwarf-like mutants possessing telekinesis. They attack by throwing objects and can block bullets. The easiest method to defeat them is to charge and use a knife.
- Poltergeists: These are mobile anomalies that can throw objects. If a poltergeist spots you, stop moving and shoot it; they cannot detect you if you remain still.
- Pseudogiant: These mutants can withstand significant damage, requiring several clips from an assault rifle. They are usually slow, making them relatively easy to avoid.
- Controllers: Humanoid mutants with powerful psychic attacks. Engage them from a distance with sniper rifles and avoid direct line-of-sight contact.
- Chimera: New in this version, the Chimera is a large humanoid that leaps to attack and then jumps away. Aim for the head and attack from a distance. Encounters with Chimeras are rare.
Mutants do not drop any useful items, so there is no benefit to searching their bodies.
