Learn about Starfield's Fauna by understanding Afflictions, including Injuries and Infections, their severity, prognosis, and treatment options. Discover how to manage status effects.
This guide section focuses on the 'Fauna' aspect of Starfield, specifically detailing the Afflictions you can contract from creatures and biological hazards, as well as environmental dangers. Understanding these status effects is crucial for survival.
Afflictions: Injuries and Infections
Afflictions are categorized into two types: Injuries, typically gained from risky activities like falling from great heights, and Infections, contracted from damage taken by creatures and biological hazards. Afflictions are listed in your 'Status Effects' menu.
Severity and Prognosis
Afflictions can range in severity from Basic to 'Acute' and 'Severe,' with higher severities presenting more detrimental symptoms. The 'Prognosis' rating, ranging from 'Poor' to 'Excellent,' indicates the chance of your body healing the Affliction without treatment. Afflictions only begin to heal on their own when their prognosis reaches 'Stable' or better. Prognosis improves over time, increasing the chance of self-healing. However, contracting an Affliction you already have will reset its prognosis back to 'Poor.'
Treatment Options
Each Affliction has a corresponding icon. Aid items in your inventory that display the same icon can cure the matching Affliction. When viewing an aid item, its 'Treatment' icon and the Afflictions it treats are listed. Alternatively, Doctors located throughout the Settled Systems can remove all your Afflictions.
