Navigate the Marshall Courthouse missions in State of Decay. Learn how to handle 'The Law,' 'Civic Duty,' 'Trouble at the Courthouse,' and 'Eager Survivors' with this walkthrough.

Alright, let's talk about the missions you get from the Marshall Courthouse enclave in State of Decay. Sometimes they'll throw in a side mission like a zed hunt or clearing an infestation, so keep an eye out for those.

Mission: The Law

This one kicks off when you hear a radio transmission about a supposed safe facility. Head over to the courthouse and chat with the judge. She'll boast about their safe society and then demand you hand over your guns to join. Naturally, you'll decline, and she'll get a bit huffy about it. The Sheriff then steps in, offering a deal: clear some infestations for him, and maybe he can smooth things over with the judge or arrange a trade. If you agree, the next mission starts automatically.

Mission: Civic Duty

You've agreed to help the Sheriff clear out some infestations. You, him, and a couple of cops will head out. You'll usually clear one or two locations, but then you'll overhear a transmission about a survivor needing help. The Sheriff decides to go find her, and new markers will pop up on your map showing potential locations. Find the survivor, and the mission wraps up. As a reward, the Sheriff gives you a new radio option: call for backup! A SWAT team will show up for a few minutes to help you out.

After this, you might get a couple of requests from regular courthouse survivors for a zed hunt or to clear an infestation. I'd definitely recommend doing these if they pop up.

Mission: Trouble at the Courthouse

Note: You won't see this mission until you've finished the Grange's 'Ask the Sheriff' mission. You'll overhear that there's trouble brewing at the courthouse, so go check it out. You'll find it's been overrun with zombies. Your job is to clear out the zombies hanging around the survivors in the front lobby.

Mission: Eager Survivors

Eventually, you'll get a radio call from two survivors at the courthouse who want to join your community. Head over there and let them in. They're always the same two: a powerhouse girl in pink (think Marcus) and a smoker cop with good shooting skills.

The Grange Missions

Just a heads-up, if you didn't do the earlier mission in Spencer's Mill about finding Jack, your first Grange mission will be to help his friends find him and bring them back to your base. Otherwise, here's how the rest usually go:

Grange Mission: Indefensible

Note: This mission only becomes available after you've completed the first courthouse mission. You'll get a message from the Grange asking for help building a watchtower. This one can be pretty tough, so make sure you bring a strong character, along with snacks, medicine, and some ammo. Your job is to defend their backs while they build, and sometimes you'll need to escort another group bringing supplies. Expect a couple waves of zombies, and be ready for at least one freak, like a feral or a juggernaut.

Once you finish, there's a cutscene where the Sheriff shows up, calls Becca 'Alex,' and then leaves.

Grange Missions: A Discreet Request & Help the Sheriff

Quinton wants to know why the Sheriff called Becca 'Alex,' so he asks you to go find out. Head to the courthouse and talk to a guard. They'll tell you the Sheriff is out hunting a feral and give you a few spots to look for him. Once you find him, you'll have to help him take down the feral. Afterward, he'll explain Becca's past.

Grange Mission: Bad Tidings

Go find Quinton and he'll ask what you learned. You'll be given a choice: tell him the truth or lie. I highly recommend lying. You'll get an achievement for wrapping up their missions, Quinton will be fine with whatever her past was, the enclave stays happy (though they won't join you), and you'll always have access to their storage locker.

If you choose to tell him the truth, he'll understandably get upset and storm off. Later, you'll get a call from the Grange saying Quinton is missing, so you'll need to find him. After you locate him, you'll get another distressed call that Becca is in trouble. You'll rush over only to find she's dead. Quinton will be devastated. After you leave, he'll kill himself, and the Grange enclave will collapse. You'll still get the achievement for concluding their missions, though.

Army Mission: Sergeant Erik Tan (Fairfield Area)

This mission finally unlocks the Fairfield area, which has been blocked by gates until now. You'll overhear an angry soldier at the bridge yelling to be let in. Lily will tell you to investigate. When you get to the bridge, you'll find Sgt. Tan (he has a bit of a cough) yelling to be let in. A short cutscene plays, and he decides to blow down the barricades and give you a tour. You need to protect Sgt. Tan while he sets the explosives. Afterward, you, Sgt. Tan, and a couple of soldiers will be sent to check out a location in the Fairgrounds. There's a lot of good military gear there, so here's a tip: go to your menu, get rid of one of your outposts, and head to the military area in the Fairgrounds, specifically the far west entrance. Go to the location (near the military tents), and you'll find the main Army unit has abandoned the area. Sgt. Tan and the soldiers will leave, and the mission ends.

TIP: Set up an outpost in the building right next to the military tents. There’s tons of good loot there.
