Learn how to set up and manage outposts in State of Decay, including resource generation and safe zone benefits.
Walkthrough
- 1Fully search the building.
- 2Ensure the building is cleared of zombies.
- 3Use the radio to select the option to set an outpost. The type of resource generated is determined by what is found in the building when the outpost is established.
- 4To remove an outpost, access the "Home" menu.
Tips
- Outposts create a resource cache that reduces your daily resource usage by 3 per day. This benefit stacks; 4 food outposts would create 12 food per day.
- Outposts establish a safe zone where zombies do not spawn. Mines within the outpost detonate if a horde approaches, killing them and automatically resetting. This area increases the chance of survivors returning home safely and makes scavengers safer.
- An outpost provides a storage locker for items, but rucksacks must still be taken to the base.
- The number of outposts a base can support varies: Church and Alamo have 4; Kirkman’s Residence, McReady Farm, and Savini House have 6; Snyder’s and the Fairgrounds have 8. The RV in the Breakdown (DLC (downloadable content — extra missions or items released after launch)) has 2.
- To set mines/traps to expand the protection zone, go to the "Home" tab, select an outpost, and choose to set mines for 1 fuel. Mines reset automatically after being hit by a horde but only last one game day (2 hours) and must be reset in the menu.
- For an outpost to generate a supply, a resource (food, ammo, medicine, construction supplies, fuel) must be present in the building when the outpost is established.
- If multiple resources are present, the outpost will generate the resource with the highest quantity. If quantities are equal, it generates based on alphabetical order: ammo, construction supplies, food, fuel, medicine. To ensure a specific resource is generated, remove all other resources from the building before establishing the outpost.
- A Bonus Report occurs on the second day of the simulation if you have enough construction materials for daily usage. Survivors collect +3 of each resource generated by outposts that still have a resource inside. For example, 4 construction outposts and 3 ammo outposts would add 12 construction and 9 ammo to your supplies. Always leave at least one resource in the outpost and ensure sufficient construction supplies for daily usage to benefit from this.
- If a building has no resources when establishing an outpost, it will produce nothing.
- A rucksack cannot be used to make an outpost generate a resource; it must be a known resource found during searching.
- Once an outpost is set to produce resources, it will continue to do so until abandoned. Removing the resource after establishment still grants the usage reduction benefit but forfeits the Bonus Report. It is best to leave the resource in the outpost.
- The most important resources for outposts to generate are ammo and construction materials.
