Diamonds for Habasi

This is your very first mission. Habasi needs a diamond for a friend, and Nalcarya the Alchemist has them. Nalcarya is located on the north-west side of Balmora. If you pass the temple, head west; if you hit the Hlaalu Council manor, head north. You'll find her shop somewhere in between. Balmora's layout can be tricky at first, so get familiar with it!

Nalcarya sells diamonds for a hefty 250 gold each. That's way too much, right? Instead, look around her shop for a small chest on a shelf above her bed. It's got a level 35 lock. If your lockpicking skill is up to snuff, you can snag the diamonds from there. If you need better lockpicks, Nileno Dorvayn in the Hlaalu Hall sells Master Lockpicks. Once you have a diamond, head back to Habasi. She doesn't have gold for you, but she'll give you an Exclusive Invisibility potion and, if you're ready, you can ask for a promotion.

Nerano Manor Key

Next up, you need to get the key to Nerano Manor, located on the west side of town. There are two ways to get it:

• Ondre Nerano: The owner himself has a copy. If your thief skills are high enough, you might be able to pickpocket it. Be warned, though – if he catches you, it's a fight to the death. He's not too tough, so just hack and slash and loot his body for the key.
• Sovor Trandel: He's in the Balmora Council Club. You don't have to fight him. Instead, you need to build up his disposition. Start by trading with him – sell him something cheap like a guide to Ald-ruhn (worth 1 gold), then buy it back. Repeat this until his disposition is around 70. Then, ask him about Nerano Manor. He'll offer to help for a small price. Bribe him with 10 gold if your Speechcraft is over 40, or 100 gold if it's lower. If the bribe fails, try again.

Once you have the key, you can loot Nerano Manor. Hit the chests on the upper floors and grab the fancy clothes. If you killed Nerano, Habasi will be angry and won't pay you. If you got the key from Sovor, she'll give you 500 gold.

Ra'Zhid's Dwemer Artifacts

After the Nerano Manor key, Habasi wants you to retrieve some Dwemer artifacts from Ra'Zhid in Hla Oad. Getting to Hla Oad isn't the most direct route. You can walk south from Balmora, cross the hills, and navigate the swamp. Alternatively, you can take a silt strider or Mage's Guild transport to Vivec, then catch a boat to Hla Oad (costs 46 gold).

Ra'Zhid is in Fatleg's Drop Off on the north side of Hla Oad. He'll deny knowing anything about the artifacts. While you *can* try to pickpocket a key from him, it's incredibly difficult. Your best bet is to make him attack you first. Taunt him until he initiates combat, then defeat him. Loot his corpse for the Simple Key. This key opens the chest next to the trapdoor, which contains the three Dwemer artifacts and some gold. Since you legally obtained the key, opening the chest isn't a crime.

Return the artifacts to Sugar-Lips, and she'll reward you with two Master's Lockpicks, two Journeyman's Probes, and a Journeyman's Armourer's Hammer. You won't get a promotion just yet; you need to prove yourself more.
