Throughout your journey across Skyloft, the Surface, and the treacherous dungeons of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, you'll encounter countless treasure chests. These chests are your primary source for valuable rupees, essential crafting materials, and even crucial quest items. While some chests are easily spotted, others are cleverly hidden, requiring keen observation, specific items, or even a bit of puzzle-solving to reach.

Types of Treasure Chests

• Standard Chests: These are the most common type, often found in plain sight or after defeating a group of enemies. They typically contain Rupees (ranging from 1 to 100), basic crafting materials like Amber Relics or Monster Claws, or occasionally smaller quantities of more valuable items.
• Dungeon Chests: Found exclusively within the game's various dungeons, these chests often hold more significant rewards. They can contain dungeon maps, compasses, new key items (like the Beetle or Clawshots), or large sums of Rupees (up to 300). The final chest in each dungeon always contains the dungeon's primary treasure or a Heart Container.
• Goddess Cubes Chests: These unique chests are activated by striking a Goddess Cube on the Surface. Once a Goddess Cube is struck, a corresponding chest will appear somewhere in the Sky, usually on a small, isolated island. These chests often contain rare crafting materials (like Blue Bird Feathers or Goddess Plumes), Heart Pieces, or even larger Rupee amounts. General Strategies for Finding Chests

While many chests are unavoidable, mastering a few strategies will ensure you don't miss out on valuable loot:

• Scrutinize Your Surroundings: Always take a moment to look around every new area. Check behind waterfalls, under ledges, and in seemingly dead-end paths. Many chests are just out of immediate sight.
• Utilize Your Dowsing Ability: Once you acquire the Dowsing ability, you can set it to search for "Treasure Chests." This is invaluable in dungeons and larger outdoor areas, as it will guide you directly to nearby hidden chests. Remember to periodically re-dowse as you move through an area.
• Look for Environmental Clues:
  • Cracked Walls/Floors: These often indicate a hidden passage that can be opened with a Bomb.
  • Vines: If you see climbable vines, there's often a chest or secret area at the top or bottom.
  • Suspiciously Empty Areas: If an area feels too open or devoid of enemies, there might be a hidden mechanism or path leading to a chest.
• Use Your Items:
  • Bombs: Essential for destroying cracked walls and opening new paths.
  • Beetle: The Beetle can activate distant switches, retrieve items from high ledges, and even scout ahead for hidden areas.
  • Clawshots: Crucial for reaching otherwise inaccessible areas by grappling onto vines or targets.
  • Whip: Can be used to pull levers or grab items from a distance.
• Revisit Areas: As you acquire new items and abilities, remember to revisit previously explored areas. Many chests are only accessible once you have the right tool for the job. For example, a chest hidden behind a bombable wall in Faron Woods might only be reachable after you obtain the Bomb Bag.

Common Chest Contents

While specific contents vary, here's a general idea of what you can expect:

• Rupees: The most frequent find. Amounts vary greatly depending on the chest's location and difficulty to reach.
• Crafting Materials:
  • Common: Amber Relic, Monster Claw, Jelly Blob, Ornamental Skull.
  • Uncommon: Dusk Relic, Evil Crystal, Lizalfos Tail, Bird Feather.
  • Rare: Goddess Plume, Blue Bird Feather, Golden Skull, Hornet Larvae.
• Heart Pieces: Four Heart Pieces combine to form one full Heart Container, increasing your maximum health. These are often found in Goddess Cubes chests or as rewards for side quests.
• Small Keys: Essential for unlocking locked doors within dungeons.
