As you begin the journey to the Sanatorium, walk down the long corridor.

Cling to the left wall to find an alcove containing Danger Totem #5.

Continue down the corridor to rejoin the other characters (or just Sam if others are dead).

A cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) (an in-game cinematic event) will play.

Examine the drainage hole in the floor.

Use your motion controls to remove the cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) (a movable part of the environment).

Another cutscene will play.

Ashley decides to close the drainage hole, and you will be left alone at the bottom.

Go down the corridor until you hear voices.

You will be presented with a choice: INVESTIGATE VOICE or REJOIN GROUP.

To collect the totem and survive: Choose INVESTIGATE VOICE.

Walk Ashley down the path, clinging to the left side to find Loss Totem #3.

Continue to the path on the right to find a trapdoor.

Warning: Do NOT open the trapdoor, as Ashley will be killed by a Wendigo. If you unbolt the door and cancel the action, the Wendigo will burst through when you try to walk away.

Instead, walk right past the trapdoor.

Walk down the path to the right of the trapdoor and examine the ledge at the end when prompted to rejoin the group. Ashley will survive.

If you choose REJOIN GROUP, Ashley ignores the voice and meets the rest of the group. If Chris is present because Ashley refused to leave him behind, his safety is secured for the rest of the chapter, and you will receive a Butterfly Effect Update.
