12.23 Clove: Controller Aggressive Smokes

In patch 12.23, Clove was introduced as a Controller with a unique twist: the ability to deploy aggressive smokes even after death. This allows Clove to maintain map control and influence the game even when eliminated, offering a persistent presence on the battlefield. Clove's kit is designed for proactive play and aggressive utility usage, enabling them to support their team from both life and death.

Clove's Ruse ability allows them to deploy smokes that can be activated remotely. These smokes can be placed anywhere on the map and activated after Clove has died, providing crucial vision control for their team even in post-death scenarios. This is Clove's primary tool for maintaining map control and supporting their team's retakes or defenses. On Ascent, Ruse can be used to smoke off A Main or B Main after Clove has fallen. On Bind, it can be used to smoke Hookah or U-Haul.

Their Pick-Me-Up ability allows Clove to consume a life force to gain temporary health and movement speed. This ability can be used to sustain themselves during aggressive pushes or to quickly reposition after taking damage. It encourages proactive play and allows Clove to take more risks. On Haven, Pick-Me-Up can be used to push onto A Site or C Site with increased survivability. On Split, it can be used to push through B Main or A Main.

Clove's signature ability, Meddle, is a projectile that detonates on impact, creating a field that weakens enemies and applies a decay debuff. This debuff increases the damage enemies take from all sources. This is an excellent tool for disrupting enemy pushes or for setting up kills for their teammates. On Icebox, Meddle can be used to weaken enemies hiding behind the containers on A Site. On Fracture, it can be used to weaken enemies in A Hall or B Main.

Their ultimate, Not Dead Yet, allows Clove to self-revive after a short delay. If Clove is killed while their ultimate is active, they will automatically revive with a portion of their health. This ultimate provides a second chance in crucial rounds and allows Clove to play more aggressively, knowing they have a built-in escape. On maps like Breeze, Not Dead Yet can be used to push onto A or B Site with the confidence of a potential revive. On maps like Pearl, it can be used to push onto a site and secure objectives with the safety net of a revive.
