Walkthrough
  1. 1
Ferry troops to the island with a shipyard, defenders, a mage, and a Temple of the Damned. Dodge fireballs from the mage.
  2. 2
Capture the island to obtain the Death and Decay and Skeleton upgrades. Ensure both are performed.
  3. 3
Head north up the river and land on the right side at the top. Proceed to find more troops and a lumber mill.
  4. 4
Perform both troll upgrades before continuing.
  5. 5
There are two main paths onto the main island: the top path leads to more troops, and the middle path leads to the goal. Take the top path first to gather all available troops.
  6. 6
Eliminate the archers (Death and Decay works well here), and the troops and tower beyond them.
  7. 7
Free the hostages and retreat. If you are fast, you can avoid destroying the tower beyond the hostages by taking minimal damage and retreating.
  8. 8
For the next section, ensure you have at least one skeleton. If you do not have any from the humans, kill one of your own weaker units and raise it.
  9. 9
Send the Death Knight to the area directly opposite the middle entrance.
  10. 10
Send a squad, including the skeleton, to the middle entrance. The skeleton will be exorcised immediately.
  11. 11
Activate the enemy and run back to the transport. Pull the transport from the coast and cast Death and Decay on that coast (50-75 mana should be sufficient).
  12. 12
After 2-3 attempts of this, acquire a sixth trooper to replace the skeleton and land.
  13. 13
Destroy the weakened defenders but do not advance too far left.
  14. 14
There is a tower on a small island. Ferry the rest of your troops to this island and your Death Knight across.
  15. 15
Have the Death Knight use Death and Decay on the tower. To the west and south of the tower are groups of six or seven skeletons; either lure them in small groups or use Death and Decay on their approach route.
  16. 16
Head south by the right route, destroy the towers with Death and Decay (a paladin is just beyond, so be cautious), and capture the blacksmith and catapult.
  17. 17
    Complete all upgrades before continuing.
  18. 18
Continue with skeletons as scouts and eliminate each group of humans until the route turns north again.
  19. 19
Ahead, you will find three towers and a catapult arranged in a plus shape or walls. Catapult the front tower, then use Death and Decay on the catapult and other towers. If towers survive, catapult them; capturing the catapult while it was trapped was the main objective.
  20. 20
Proceed north to a wall with a couple of paladins and several archers. Keep the Death Knight back and catapult the first archer. The remaining enemies should move towards your troops. One paladin may follow; keep it away from your Death Knight.
  21. 21
You can destroy the runestones if desired, but they offer no benefit and may distract your troops.
  22. 22
Head north again, eliminate the other paladin, and you will reach a large circular area.
  23. 23
This is the final area containing several skeletons and the daemon. The daemon is your objective. Since your melee troops cannot hit it, use them to keep the skeletons off your trolls. The Death Knight's Death Coil is useful here as the daemon has more health than normal, though it is still not a difficult fight.
  24. 24
Kill the daemon to complete the level and begin the final chapter.

Mission: ALTERAC

Objective: Destroy the enemy human settlements. Rescue the Mage from Alterac and return him to the Circle of Power.

You start in the top left with a sizable force, including some knights. Red starts in the top right, white in the bottom left, and a small orange base is in the bottom right. The orange base is on an island and can be dealt with at the end.

The top left corner is surrounded by two lines of rock with several openings. Between these rock lines are many light blue troops in five main groups.

Your base lacks a gold mine. All three available mines are located just beyond the second rock line: one on the top wall, one on the side wall, and one in the middle. Your first priority is to capture one of these mines.

Set your peasants to gather wood and construct towers at the entrance to this area (wood base). You begin with a couple of dragons; send them to locate one of the light blue groups, then dispatch your full force to either the top or left opening in the rocks to eliminate the enemy forces there.

As soon as the area is clear, send a peasant to claim the mine and begin defending it (gold base). Depending on whether you choose the top or left opening, you will be in the direct path of either red or white. The top path (towards red) is slightly easier, as white will typically head towards this base and leave your original base undisturbed. If you choose the left path, white will attack the gold base while red attacks the wood base.

If you choose the red path, four towers at the entrance to your wood base should suffice. However, deploy six or more towers at the entrance to the gold base. The gold base does not need to be extensive, as most development and work can occur at the wood base, allowing for easier defense. Ensure you can still reach each tower for repairs.

After securing your bases, the next step is to wait them out. Neither white nor red appear to have a large initial mine. Place spotters on the other two mines (consider eliminating more of the light blue forces for safety).

As soon as they begin mining, send a peasant to the mine and construct towers. You can place towers beforehand, but defending them is difficult while enemy troops are still active.

When you upgrade to Ogre-Magi, any remaining knights will transform into Paladins, gaining the Vision spell, which is still beneficial.

Once peasant slaughter is underway, begin building your main force. Eliminate the remaining light blue forces on the mainland (some are on the island with orange), then focus on taking out either white or red. Since they were close...

Tips
  • Death and Decay is highly effective against groups of enemies and structures like towers.
  • Raising skeletons can provide valuable scouts and expendable units.
  • Prioritize upgrading your trolls and completing blacksmith and catapult upgrades.
  • Use skeletons as scouts to identify enemy positions and approach routes.
  • When dealing with the daemon, use melee troops to distract skeletons while your Death Knight uses Death Coil.
  • In Alterac, securing a gold mine early is crucial.
  • Build defensive towers strategically at mine entrances and base access points.
  • Consider the enemy's likely path of attack when placing towers.
  • Use dragons early to scout and engage enemy groups.
  • Upgrading to Ogre-Magi grants Paladins the Vision spell.
