Europa's depths are littered with the skeletal remains of past expeditions and forgotten structures. These abandoned wrecks and ruins present both opportunities and significant dangers. Navigating these sites requires careful observation and a keen understanding of potential threats. Many wrecks contain valuable salvage, such as spare parts for your submarine, medical supplies, or even rare minerals. However, these locations are often infested with hostile creatures drawn to the decay and residual energy. Keep an eye out for common scavengers like the Hammerhead or the more dangerous Lurker, which can ambush unsuspecting divers.

When exploring wrecks, prioritize securing the immediate area before attempting to salvage. Use your submarine's external lights to illuminate the surroundings and identify potential threats from a distance. The sonar map can also be invaluable, revealing the general shape of the wreck and any large, moving signatures that might indicate hostile lifeforms. Some wrecks may contain intact systems, such as dormant power conduits or even functional weapon emplacements, which can be reactivated to defend your crew or clear a path. Be aware of structural integrity; some older wrecks may collapse under pressure or when disturbed, creating hazards for both divers and the submarine.

A crucial aspect of wreck exploration is resource management. Ensure your divers have adequate oxygen supplies, as extended stays in these hazardous environments can deplete tanks quickly. Bringing along extra oxygen tanks or a portable oxygen generator can be a lifesaver. Furthermore, the presence of specific resources can be a strong indicator of a wreck's potential value. For instance, finding traces of Titanite or other rare ores might suggest the wreck was involved in mining operations, potentially yielding valuable materials. Always have a plan for extraction, especially if the wreck is in a high-traffic area for dangerous fauna. The presence of a derelict submarine, like a lost Dugong or a crippled Humpback, often sifies a significant salvage opportunity but also a heightened risk.
