Learn how to use the Orders system in Barotrauma to command your AI crew. Master emergency responses, movement, maintenance, and operation tasks to survive the depths.
Hey there! So, you've got a crew to manage in Barotrauma, right? They're not always the sharpest tools in the shed, but thankfully, we've got the Orders system to help us out. Think of it as your way of telling your AI buddies what to do, especially when things get hairy. While they'll do some stuff on their own, giving them specific orders makes them way more useful. ### How to Use Orders To bring up the Orders menu, you'll usually press the Middle Mouse Button (that's Mouse 3, the scroll wheel click). * Giving Orders Directly: If you click on a crew member or their name at the top-left of your screen while the Orders menu is open, you can give them a specific command. * Targeting: If you open the menu by clicking on the ground or an object, you might see a list of your crew. Right-clicking an order can show you who can do it, and left-clicking a crew member assigns that order. If you left-click an order directly, the game will try to pick the best crew member for the job automatically. * Focusing Orders: Want to tell someone to man the turrets? Hold down Shift and use the Orders key while clicking on the weapon. This will filter the radial menu to show only orders relevant to that specific thing. * Dismissing Crew: If you need someone to stop what they're doing, you can right-click their order next to their name in the top-left crew display to dismiss them. Heads Up! If an order requires a specific item, like a screwdriver for a junction box or a Diving Suit for flooded rooms, your crew will try to find it on the floor or in containers. If they can't find it, or if another crewmate has it, they won't be able to grab it and will tell you they can't complete the order. They won't steal from each other, so make sure the items are accessible! Pro Tip: You can issue orders preemptively. If you tell someone to Fight Intruders when there aren't any, they'll say they can't find any, but they'll stay on that task. When intruders eventually show up, they'll be ready! Quick Assignment: You can save up to 3 orders for quick reuse. When you give a new order, the old one shifts to the side. Left-clicking one of these saved orders lets you quickly reassign tasks. It's a good idea to set these up at the start of a round so you can switch between them easily later. ### Emergency Orders When things go south, these are your go-to commands: * Extinguish Fires: This tells a crew member to grab the nearest Fire Extinguisher and head to the closest fire to put it out. If there are fires, this order will pop up in the quick access section of the Orders menu. * Fight Intruders: This makes your crew seek out and engage any unwanted guests on the sub. Like firefighting, this order appears in the quick access if there are intruders around. * Heal and Rescue: This order prompts a crew member to help out any injured teammates. Keep in mind, the AI might ignore really minor injuries like slight Internal Damage. If the crew member is a Medical Doctor, this order is also readily available in their quick access menu. ### Movement Orders Sometimes you just need your crew to move around: * Follow: This tells a crew member to follow you, the player giving the order. It's super handy for bringing someone along with you, maybe to help with a task or just keep them safe. They'll stick with you until you dismiss the order.100% Human-Written. AI Fact-Checked.
