How to Find High Runes

The Countess: While she almost always drops runes, The Countess's highest possible rune drop is Ral in Normal, Ko in Nightmare, and Lo in Hell difficulty. She has a higher-than-average drop rate for Ist runes (around 1:300), but farming high runes like Ber and Jah is generally more efficient in level 85 areas. The Countess is found in the Forgotten Tower, which requires delving through five dungeon levels in the Black Marsh area. She is immune to cold and fire.

Lower Kurast Runs: This method focuses on finding super chests within Lower Kurast maps. Almost every map spawns with 3-6 super chests that regularly drop gems, charms, and runes, with the highest possible rune being Ber. The locations of these super chests are semi-static and can be identified by bonfires surrounded by torches. Two huts near the bonfire typically contain the chests: the northeastern hut has one super chest and a weapon rack, while the northwestern hut has two super chests and an armor rack.

Identifying Super Chests: Look for a bonfire with torches. The huts northeast and northwest of this bonfire contain the super chests. You can often identify these locations by viewing the minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen).

Efficiency: While Lower Kurast runs can be mindlessly repetitive, they are one of the more mathematically sound ways to specifically farm high runes. Reloading maps until you get one with two bonfires relatively close to the Waypoint (a marker on your map you've manually placed as a destination) is beneficial, especially in singleplayer games where maps are static.

Alternative: Level 85 Areas: For those seeking variety or who find Lower Kurast too tedious, farming level 85 areas is recommended. You may get fewer runes overall, but the potential for higher-tier runes is present, along with other valuable gear that can be traded for high runes.
