Your essential guide to Dirkandor in Dragon Quest II! Learn about local monsters, grab powerful gear, and defeat the Striking Sabrecat to obtain the Moon Sigil.

Alright, let's tackle Dirkandor! This place is pretty important for grabbing some key items and progressing the story. Keep your wits about you, and we'll get through it together.

First off, the local wildlife around Dirkandor can be a bit of a nuisance. You might run into Hawk Men, Metal Slimes (if you're lucky for EXP!), Sorcerers, Walking Corpses, Miasmas, and Treevils. Treevils can mess with your MP and cast Fizzle, while Sorcerers can also cast Fizzle, plus Kabuff and Sizzle. Miasmas can put you to sleep with Snooze or blind you with Dazzle. Metal Slimes are tough nuts to crack, resisting everything and being super resilient, but they're worth a ton of experience if you manage to take one down.

Now, let's get down to business. Head north from where you are. You'll see a path going west – ignore the first one you see. Instead, follow the second path west, and then head south. You'll find a door here; use your Gold Key to unlock it. Right next to the Equipment Shop merchant, you'll find some treasure chests. Open them up to snag a TECTONIC PLATE and a DIVINE DAGGER. Definitely equip that Tectonic Plate right away – it's good protection!

After grabbing that gear, backtrack to where you ignored that first path going west. Head down that path now. You're looking for the King, who's chilling between two bunny girls. Go chat with him and answer "Yes" when he asks you something. Once the conversation is done, make your way south to the middle of the Coliseum area.

Get ready, because you're about to face a Striking Sabrecat. Honestly, I don't even consider this a real mini-boss, but it's good practice. Here's the plan: have the Hero and the Prince just wail on it with physical attacks. On the very first turn, have the Princess cast Kasap to lower its defense. The Sabrecat should go down without much trouble by the second turn.

After you've dealt with the cat, go back and talk to the King again. He'll reward you with the MOON SIGIL. Awesome, that's four down, and just one more to go! The King will then turn into a Save Point, so make sure to use it. Now you're free to explore the rest of Dirkandor.

Here's a look at what the shops have to offer:

Also, stash the Mark of Erdrick and the Floodgate Key in the Vault if you haven't already. We've done all we can here in Dirkandor, so let's leave town and Zoom back to Tantegel.
