Learn how to defeat Togrus Maximus in Dragon Quest VII. This guide covers his attacks, weaknesses, and the rewards you'll get for beating him.

Phases:

1. Phase 1: Togrus Maximus
   The boss has a couple of nasty tricks up his sleeve, but they're mostly unmitakable. His 'Desperate Attack' can take out a single party member for about 160 damage, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it since it's a critical hit that bypasses defense. His other signature move is a ground slam that also ignores defense, dealing around 50-60 damage to your entire party. Since he rarely uses his normal attack, it's best to skip defensive buffs like Buff/Kabuff and just focus on dealing as much damage as possible.

Strategy:

• Focus on offense. Don't waste turns casting defensive spells like Buff or Kabuff, as Togrus' strongest attacks ignore defense anyway.
• The 'Desperate Attack' is unavoidable and hits hard, so be prepared to heal if a party member is low on HP.
• The 'Ground Slam' hits the whole party, so keep your party's HP topped up.
• Once Togrus is defeated, you'll receive a Mysterious Fragment.

After the Battle:

Once you've dealt with Togrus Maximus, exit The Beacon and head back to Buccanham. Speak with the king there; he'll give you Buccanham’s Blessing. Now, you need to travel back to the present, and then make your way to Emberdale in the past. Find the Gaffer on the second floor of his house. He'll give you the okay to get the Guiding Light. Head back downstairs and talk to the person standing next to it.

Make your way back up to the top of The Beacon. After the scenes play out, you'll return to Buccanham and receive the Sea Serpent Sabre. This is a powerful weapon that only the Hero can use, so equip it immediately! After all the story events conclude, the king will suggest another visit to the dwarves. Head there and speak with the Foreman, then the guard blocking the stairs. You can find a Meaty Treat in the pots, a Watermaul Wand and Jawtoise Heart in the chests, and another Mysterious Fragment on the ground. Once you've looted everything, use the teleportal to return to the present.
