Dream Aether, the primordial energy of the universe, is the core of character progression in Dreams of Aether. Understanding how to allocate and encode this energy is crucial for maximizing your character's potential. This guide will break down the fundamentals of Aether, its properties, and how to effectively use it to enhance your attributes.

Aether Properties:

  • Aether is attracted to itself.
  • Aether spun centrifugally moves inward.
  • Atmospherically absorbed Aether replenishes instantly and retains its density.
  • Dream Aether is the origin of all energy and matter, with higher density leading to greater probability of creation.
  • Aether density increases due to its self-attraction and its attraction to brain activity, especially thoughts and dreams.

Encoding Aether:

Encoding is the process by which Dream Aether is transformed into usable energy to enhance a character's attributes. The seven basic attributes that can be enhanced are Strength, Agility, Constitution, Vitality, Intelligence, and Perception.

  • Cost: The cost to encode Aether varies based on the volume of the target. Larger volumes incur exponentially higher costs. For example, enhancing a 3 cubic meter unit with Sharpness Encoding costs 1 Aether point, and this applies to stats as well.
  • Capacity Limit: Each body has a finite Aether capacity. Exceeding this limit, known as the Aether's 100-point limit for humans, can lead to negative consequences.

Encoding Grades:

There are different grades of Encoding, affecting how much Aether a body can hold and the complexity of infused properties:

  • Grade 1: Comparable to a gas, with a maximum attribute of 100. The Oracle offers 7 free Grade 1 primary Encodings.
  • Grade 2: Comparable to a liquid, with a maximum attribute of 1,000. Costs 1,000 credits at the Oracle Store.
  • Grade 3: Comparable to a solid, with a potential maximum attribute of 10,000.

Higher grades allow for more condensed Aether, enabling greater attribute enhancement and the infusion of passive properties similar to Aether Skills.

Aether Colors:

For simplicity, the Oracle assigns colors to different Aether energies: Red for Strength, orange for Agility, yellow for Constitution, green for Vitality, cyan for Intelligence, and indigo for Perception. The Oracle device uses more Aether to encode each different energy based on its color.
