Guide to the final battles in Final Fantasy VII, including Jenova-SYNTHESIS and Bizarro Sephiroth. Learn strategies, weaknesses, and how to prepare for the ultimate showdown.
Walkthrough
- 1Jenova-SYNTHESIS: This boss is less dangerous than previous forms, with its main threat being a weak "Ultima" cast after a long countdown. Other attacks include tentacle strikes (1500 damage), Bio 2, Cure 3, "Absorb" (800 damage, Sadness), and Stop. A Ribbon accessory blocks Bio 2. Using "Magic Hammer" reduces her to "Absorb" and tentacle attacks.
- 2Influencing Future Fights: To make the next battle easier, allow Jenova to take 13+ actions. If Jenova casts "Ultima", you will not receive XP or AP for this fight, but it simplifies the next encounter. Avoid using Knights of the Round, as it increases the HP of subsequent bosses.
- 3Post-Jenova Preparation: After defeating Jenova-SYNTHESIS, the island collapses, and the party confronts Sephiroth. You will have an opportunity to reassign weapons, Materia, and use items before selecting "Let’s go, every one!" to proceed.
- 4Party Selection: Sephiroth may split your party based on factors like your level, time taken against Jenova, and the presence of Yuffie or Vincent. A weaker setup might result in only three characters for the next fight, while a stronger one requires splitting into three groups.
- 5Bizarro Sephiroth: This multi-part boss's HP varies based on your level and previous actions (e.g., using Knights of the Round against Jenova). The main body (Bizarro Sephiroth A) has 40,000-140,000 HP and is the only part that needs to be defeated to win.
- 6Bizarro Sephiroth Parts:
- Core (C): Heals the body for ~6000 HP each round with "Bizzaro Energy". Must be exposed by defeating an arm first.
- 7Arms (D & E): Cast high-level elemental spells (Bolt 3, Fire 3, Ice 3 for ~3000 damage; Quake 3 for ~3500 damage). The left arm (E) absorbs earth/fire; the right arm (D) absorbs ice/lightning. "Aqualung" and "Pandora’s Box" are effective against all parts.
- 8Head (B): Stops some attacks but regenerates quickly and is not a priority.
- 9Bizarro Sephiroth Additional Attacks: Physical attack (~1500 damage), "Aurora Fence" (revives and heals all party members, removes status effects), Demi 3 (reduces target HP to 1/4), and "Heartless Angel" (reduces all party members' HP to 1).
- 10Strategy for Bizarro Sephiroth: If overwhelmed, focus on defeating the arms, then the core, and finally the body. If you had to split into multiple parties, you can switch between them after defeating a body party by selecting "Yeah, a little".
Stats / Weaknesses:
- Jenova-SYNTHESIS: HP: 60000, MP: 600, Weaknesses: N/A, Resistances: Earth (negates), Gravity (negates), Poison (absorbs), XP: 60000, AP: 1500, Steal: N/A, Drop: N/A, Gil: N/A.
- Bizarro Sephiroth (Body A): HP: 40,000-140,000.
Phases:
- Jenova-SYNTHESIS: Single phase boss.
- Bizarro Sephiroth: Multi-part boss requiring destruction of arms, then core, then body.
Strategy:
- Jenova-SYNTHESIS: Use "Magic Hammer" to reduce her attack options. A Ribbon helps against Bio 2. Avoid Knights of the Round. Allow her 13+ turns for an easier next fight, or let her cast Ultima to skip XP/AP gain but simplify the next fight.
- Bizarro Sephiroth: Prioritize destroying the arms to expose the core. Use "Aqualung" or "Pandora’s Box" for area damage. Once the core is destroyed, focus on the body. If split into multiple parties, switch as needed. High-level characters can potentially defeat Bizarro Sephiroth quickly with strong physical attacks or Knights of the Round (though the latter is not recommended due to its impact on subsequent fights).
