Complete all three GTA V Triathlons: Vespucci, Alamo Sea, and Coyote Cross Country. Learn strategies for swimming, cycling, and running.

Vespucci Triathlon

This race is designed to introduce you to the triathlon mechanics in GTA V. It is a short race, so you won't need to worry about excessive button mashing.

If your character has a full stamina stat, you can continuously mash the sprint button. For others, focus on staying with the pack during the swim. To gain an early lead, swim underwater to avoid surface waves.

You don't need to sprint constantly to lead the swim. The swimming section is short. You can cut corners and still hit the checkpoints, so always look for opportunities to do so.

Follow the checkpoints until you reach the beach. Sprint to the bikes (blue blip on the radar (your minimap with nearby blips and threats marked)). Choose the first bike you see, as the type of bike does not matter. You can get ahead of rivals during the cycling section by tapping the sprint button to gain speed.

Stay on the path around the beach area to maintain speed. There are few opportunities to cut corners here, so focus on sprinting. Be cautious on bends to avoid crashing or flying off the pavement.

When you see the checkered flag, dismount the bike and run to the first checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death). Use the radar to plan your route. You will not be penalized for cutting corners as long as you hit each checkpoint. Take all available shortcuts, including across sidewalks and corners. Other runners tend to stick to the path.

Sprint for the entire foot race, as there are many opportunities to take the lead.

Alamo Sea Triathlon

This race is also relatively short. The swimming section is slightly longer than the Vespucci Triathlon but manageable. This race is located in Grapeseed.

As in other races, avoid excessive sprinting during the swim. Maintain a steady pace to stay within contention without depleting your stamina too much. You can swim underwater in the final stretch for a slight advantage.

Swimming underwater helps avoid surface drag and allows you to gain on opponents. Take a tight line to the left of the telephone pole at checkpoint 4 to save time.

The cycling section is the longest part of the race, so push hard to get ahead. There are many opportunities to cut corners for an advantage. With a full stamina stat, consistent sprinting is sufficient.

Take a shortcut at checkpoint 3 and a tight line next to the telephone pole at checkpoint 4. Checkpoints 5 and 6 also offer chances to cut corners, as do subsequent checkpoints.

The foot race requires mashing the sprint button to the finish. You can take tight lines at checkpoints, but maintaining the lead ensures victory.

Coyote Cross Country Triathlon

This is a very large race that includes a long swim around the Alamo Sea, a lengthy bike ride through the countryside, and a run through almost the entire city, finishing at the Kortz Center. The race can take around half an hour.

Warning: You must place third or higher for the race to count towards 100% completion. Ensure you start this race with a full stamina stat.

The competitors are skilled and will challenge you. During the swim, stay with the pack. You can swim underwater to gain an advantage by avoiding waves, but opponents will catch up when you need to surface for air. Use this tactic near the beach at the end of the swim to get ahead.

Being in the lead when exiting the water is crucial for maintaining a good lead and saving time. Use the underwater trick. You can jump a barrier around checkpoint 15 with accurate timing to save time, but failure could cost you the race.

The cycling section is the most significant part of the race, offering opportunities to gain and maintain the lead. Rivals may gain a burst of speed by using slipstreams. Swerve from side to side to force them out of your slipstream, or use theirs if they get ahead.

There are areas where you can cut corners. You can also bunny hop a barrier around checkpoint 15 with correct timing, or perform a wheelie to get over it. Failing to execute these maneuvers will waste time and can cost you the race, so only attempt them if you are practiced.

At the Maze Bank Arena, you can cut across a dirt path to make significant progress. There are additional corners to cut on the way to Vespucci Beach.
