Navigate Part 17 of Half-Life 2, including the boulder obstacle and bridge ambush. Learn enemy tactics and item locations.
Walkthrough
- 1When encountering mines, stop ahead of them and use the Gravity Gun (GGP) to move them into the water.
- 2In Half-Life 2 (HL2), squeeze between the house and the end of the boulder. In Half-Life 2: Deathmatch (HL2ud), the boulder splits, opening a path on the left.
- 3Save your NOS (Nitro) boost for later. Drive past the boulder using the available path for your version of Half-Life 2.
- 4Beyond the boulder, you'll find debris, cars, and more boulders. Move to the left side of the road near the rock wall.
- 5Just before car #1, activate NOS to push it aside. Drive into the gap left of the truck.
- 6Jump over the low side of the massive boulder, potentially taking out some Breen Grenadiers (BGs) along the way. Keep driving away from the chaos.
- 7A vehicle and debris blockade appears near a knob hill. Maneuver to the right and between the blockade and the knob with the buggy.
- 8Climb the hill; you will find an ammo case (SC) and a Combine Ball (CB) on the hill. Ahead, you'll see a bridge, a security station (SS), and buildings. An Overwatch Border Guard (OBG) is on the walkway (Wkwy) of a road sign, with two more advancing from the buildings toward the bridge.
- 9Grab the Combine Ball (CB), crouch, scope it, and wait for the two ground BGs to stop.
- 10To clear the three bridge area OBGs, start with the barn BG, then the bridge BG, and finally the sign BG. Aim for the bolt just left of the top left corner of the end bridge post closest to the barn. Send the bolt as the BG clears the security station (SS) tower en route to the barn.
- 11Sending a bolt to the explosive barrels (EBs) at the gas tanks may eliminate all three OBGs involved in the flanking maneuver.
- 12Sprint between the shed and garage, then circle the garage clockwise to its rear corner.
- 13Past the garage, turn right, scope the CB, and send a bolt to the EBs near the gas tanks as the BGs pass. This prevents their flanking maneuver.
- 14Backstep towards the rock wall, crouch, and select targets as they become viable.
- 15When all BGs (often 5) are down, cautiously approach the house from the left to check for any remaining enemies.
- 16Use the Gravity Gun (GGP) on the generator truck to separate the power to the security station (SS).
- 17Sprint back to the buggy and drive off towards the bridge.
- 18The Bridge: This section requires careful navigation to avoid falling or self-destruction.
- 19RR TRACK SS CR TO RAZOR TRAIN (12/29/16): New tactics begin at houses #1-3, involving entering and exiting the bridge area.
- 20New maneuver to shack#3 before GS#3 (1/4/17): This is a fast and safe method to complete the bridge with minimal deaths or restarts.
- 21Pull up to house #1 (on the right), then back up just past the shed and target the house doorway. Use the Tau Cannon to eliminate Overwatch Border Guard (OBG) #1.
- 22Exit the car and enter house #1 from the left side of the door in a crouch, using either the Riot Gun (RT/SG) or the Pulse Rifle (PR) for OBG #2. Exit or clear the back room.
- 23In HL2ud, you may encounter 1 or 2 OBGs from the left as you exit house #1.
- 24In the car, drive straight to house #2 (the large house), then back up to your previous position. Three more OBGs appear from the garage of house #2, house #2 itself, and house #3. Eliminate them with the Tau Cannon.
- 25New Route and tactics begin from here (12/29/16):
- 26Instead of backing the buggy between the garage of house #1 and house #2, back it into the niche between house #1 (East Perimeter side) and the red shed.
- 27Sprint to the entryway of house #2. If you used the launcher extensively, reload at the Local Ammunition Cache (LAC) then head to the second floor of house #2.
- 28Use the small end table near the stairs. Remain at the top of the stairs, scope, locate, and use the Gravity Gun (GGP) on the Combine Ball (CB) from the nearby room, then head back outside.
- 29Sprint on, along and to the end of the wooden walkway (Wkwy). At the Wkwy railing, beside house #3, and facing the entry to the Bridge abutment, jump up onto the railing.
- 30Look left to locate the path leading to bridge abutment #1 East Perimeter (EP), then run/jump to the path. Sprint to the EP and enter, load up on supplies, then use the Experience Points (XP).
- 31Continue to and through tower #1 to tower #2. There is a LAC in the base. Climb the stairs to the top (there are 2 more Sentry Guns (SBs)).
- 32Exit tower #2 through shack #1 to the metal walkways (Wkwys), then make your way to shack #2. Ignore and continue past shack #2 and ignore shack #3 ahead and below.
- 33You need to find a way to get to shack #4. Move to the end of the broken Wkwy, scope and look straight across and over shack #3.
- 34When you've found the path and are standing on the Wkwy leading to shack #4, sprint through it. There are 2 Heavy Combine (HCs) to the left of the EP.
- 35When back outside, you will see shack #5 ahead, attached to tower #3, similar to shack #1 and tower #2.
- 36Turn right at the EP to shack #5 and go to the railing. Look up and left to see the top of a Combine lookout station. Shoulder the CB and jump onto the railing. You now have Line of Sight (LOS) on the lookout. Eliminate OBG #1.
- 37If the OBG throws a grenade before you eliminate him, quickly retreat into shack #5 for cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects).
- 38Go down through tower #3 to the Wkwy, sprint to the beginning of tower #4 and crouch. Creep forward; OBGs #2 and #3 are on the right, one low and one high.
- 39Eliminate one of them with the CB, then back up for cover while you reload. Relocate and eliminate OBG #3.
- 40Switch to your pistol, then sprint to and through the EP.
Tips
- Save your NOS boost for critical moments like pushing obstacles or escaping danger.
- Utilize the Gravity Gun (GGP) to manipulate environmental objects and enemies.
- The Combine Ball (CB) is effective for long-range engagements and eliminating entrenched enemies.
- Listen for enemy audio cues to anticipate their movements and positions.
- Use cover effectively to avoid enemy fire and reload safely.
- The environment can be used to your advantage; look for explosive barrels (EBs) to create chain reactions.
- Practice the timing for specific shots, especially when engaging multiple enemies at range.
- Conserve ammunition when possible, switching to your pistol for weaker enemies or when other weapons are depleted.
- Pay attention to the minimap (radar (your minimap with nearby blips and threats marked)) for enemy positions and objective markers.
- Be aware of different enemy types and their attack patterns.
