Navigate Part 34 of Half-Life 2, focusing on the launcher laser guidance issue and surviving the town square walker assault.
Walkthrough
- 1Keep your team behind you and enter the stairwell. Stop before the launcher on the floor, shoulder it, and fire one round at the Gunship (MGT) on the stair platform above.
- 2Position yourself between the upper and lower railings, run over the launcher to pick up a round.
- 3Sprint up the stairs to the platform where the Gunship was, continue forward to the corner, turn left, and take a few steps toward the next set of stairs. Target the stairwell above where two Combine soldiers (OBGs) momentarily stop to shoot at you.
- 4Fire one round at them, then set the laser between the top and middle railing. If done correctly, you should be at or near full health.
- 5Sprint to the exit (XP), position your team a flight below the exit, then sprint out the exit.
- 6Hook hard right out of the exit to the roof deck. Continue two-thirds of the way to the ammo cache (LAC) then turn left to face the steps leading to the lower roof deck.
- 7Fire one launcher round at the far end corner of the cargo container just before the Combine soldier (BG) appears.
- 8As soon as possible, target two more Combine soldiers (BGs) that appear from the far steps past the cargo container. Aim to catch them while they are still together near the top of the steps, especially if you do not have laser guidance. Otherwise, you will take damage from the survivor while you run to the ammo cache (LAC) for three more rounds.
- 9Expect two more Combine soldiers (BGs) on the lower level firing at you as you sprint to the ammo cache (LAC). Eliminate them, then return to the ammo cache (LAC), reload, switch to the Combine barrier (CB), and head back toward the roof exit (EP).
- 10Locate, scope, and use the Combine barrier (CB) on the distant tower Combine soldier (OBG). Grab all available ammo and supplies on roof #1. Check launcher ammo and visit the ammo cache (LAC) if needed.
- 11Check roof #2 (middle lower roof level) for Combine soldiers (BGs) if you did not eliminate them earlier; if so, roof #2 will be empty. Charge the area for any possible ambushers, though this is rare. It is usually clear of Combine soldiers (OBGs), but a significant challenge is imminent.
- 12Normally, Gunship #7 (GS#7) rises from below. Fire three good launcher rounds and sprint to the ammo cache (LAC) on roof #1. Use the container, stairwell enclosure, and air conditioning (AC) structures for cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) while attacking Gunship #7 (GS#7). Sometimes, Gunship #7 (GS#7) and the Dark Signal (DS) appear together, and Gunship #7 (GS#7) holds by the Dark Signal's (DS) premature arrival. It may hang by the Dark Signal (DS) briefly before proceeding with its assault or remain with the Dark Signal (DS) indefinitely. If it proceeds, it can be deadly as the four Dark Signal (DS) Combine soldiers (OBGs) often swarm roof #1 while Gunship #7 (GS#7) attacks the rebels.
- 13Recently, when Gunship #7 (GS#7) and the Dark Signal (DS) were stationary on roof #3, they were attacked from the ammo cache (LAC).
- 14There seem to be more Combine soldiers (OBGs) on roofs #1 and 2 once the barrier doors to roof #3 open. If you retain one or two team members by the time you reach the roof #3 doors, your survival odds increase significantly, as extra allies help clear the bridge area faster. Most often, you will be alone after the Gunship (GS) battle; occasionally, you might have four team members by the time you reach the bridge, which clears the bridge and rooms quickly.
- 15If the Gunship (GS) battle takes too long and you are alone and injured, wait for Combine soldiers (OBGs) to swarm from roof #2. Run to the roof #1 stairwell enclosure, enter, and take a position facing the entry halfway down the top flight of stairs. Usually, there are only three Combine soldiers (OBGs).
- 16Advance to the far left corner of roof #2 and begin backstepping. Gunship #7 (GS#7) will rise; quickly fire all three rounds and hopefully hit Gunship #7 (GS#7). This is impossible without laser guidance; your only option is close-quarters (CQ) attacks from the side of the cargo container, stairwell exit (XP) enclosure, and air conditioning (AC) units. You have the fastest reload fire rate from the area on roof #1.
- 17Sprint back to roof #1 and the ammo cache (LAC), holding at the containers' lee side. Begin firing and, if things look favorable, remain at the ammo cache (LAC) for reloads. If you are under heavy fire, use the exit (XP) enclosure and AC structures for cover as Gunship #7 (GS#7) circles roof #1. When line of sight (LOS) is lost due to a structure, fire upwards then strafe away from it to locate and track Gunship #7 (GS#7).
- 18It often takes two passes to defeat Gunship #7 (GS#7); sometimes, it is defeated before completing one full pass. If things go poorly (about 30/70 chance of success), after completion, you might have 10-15% health and three to four Combine soldiers (OBGs) storming the roof. For critical points (GPs), retreat to the stairwell exit (XP) enclosure, go down half a flight of stairs, perform a 180-degree crouch for waist-high line of fire (LOF) on the entry, and hold your position with the Combine barrier (CB), revolver, or pulse rifle (PR) until all Combine soldiers (OBGs) are down.
- 19Sprint to the weapon depots (WDs), grab mines, and drop them on top of the horizontal AC ducts in line with the retractable bridge. Take cover behind the cargo container and use the gravity gun (GGP) on the secondary Combine (SCs) for goodies.
- 20When the new team members have assembled, sprint to and press the bridge button. Position yourself behind the horizontal ducts and use the gravity gun (GGP) to deploy a mine. Send one mine after the gate opens and when the two to three Combine soldiers (OBGs) are in range.
Tips
- If the launcher guidance system is lost, close-quarters attacks and using cover are essential for survival against gunships.
- Conserving ammo and health is crucial for the town square walker assault and subsequent Combine soldier (BG) confrontations.
- Utilize environmental cover like containers, stairwell enclosures, and AC structures effectively during Gunship #7 (GS#7) battles.
- If overwhelmed by Combine soldiers (OBGs) after the Gunship (GS) battle, strategic retreat and defensive positions in stairwells can be effective.
- Deploying mines strategically on AC ducts near the retractable bridge can help control enemy advances.
