Alright, Helldiver! So you've dropped into the chaos of Helldivers 2 and you're wondering how to actually move around and, you know, *do* stuff. This game doesn't hold your hand much, so let's get you up to speed on the basics. We'll cover how to get around and, crucially, how to communicate with your squad when voice chat isn't an option.

The core of surviving out there is teamwork, and a big part of that is letting your buddies know what's going on. If you're not using your mic, or if you're playing with randoms, pinging is your best friend. It's how you point out threats or objectives without saying a word.

Pinging and Marking Locations

Think of pinging as a quick shout-out to your team. You're basically saying, 'Hey, look over here!' It's super useful for pointing out a nasty bug nest you want to clear, a supply drop you need, or a particularly nasty Charger heading your way. Marking is a bit more persistent, leaving a spot on the map for everyone to see.

PC Controls for Pinging and Marking

If you're on PC, it's pretty straightforward:

• To Ping: Just look at whatever you want to highlight – an enemy, an objective, anything – and press the Q key. You'll see a quick ping appear on screen that lasts about 6 seconds. That's usually enough time for your teammates to see it.
• To Mark: First, press Tab to bring up your minimap. Then, hold down the Right Mouse Button and move your mouse to navigate the map. Once you've found the spot you want to mark, just click the Left Mouse Button. This marker will stay there until you place a new one, so use it to guide your team to specific spots.

PS5 Controls for Pinging and Marking

On the PlayStation 5, it's just as easy:

• To Ping: Press R1 + D-Pad Up. This will put a quick ping on the map for everyone to see, just like on PC.
• To Mark: Open up your minimap by pressing the Touchpad. Use the left joystick to move around the map until you're looking at the area you want to mark. Then, press the Cross button to place your marker. Like the PC version, this marker will stick around until you place another one.

Using these pings and markers effectively can make a huge difference, especially when things get hectic. It keeps everyone on the same page and helps you coordinate your attacks or defenses without needing to constantly talk.
