Learn about Good, Bad, New players, and Bots in Left 4 Dead 2. Discover how to interact with each type and their unique behaviors.

Good Players: These survivors are adept, know the maps well, prioritize teamwork by not leaving teammates behind, use their microphones or voice commands responsibly, stick together, share supply locations, wait for everyone before initiating Crescendo Events (sudden intense waves of Infected), and apologize for mistakes.

Bad Players: Characterized by intentionally shooting teammates, rushing ahead, berating others, wasting supplies like Medkits, spamming microphones, and immediately initiating Crescendo Events, these players often leave others behind with the excuse "the game's called Left 4 Dead".

New Players: Distinct from bad players, new survivors are unfamiliar with the game, may accidentally shoot teammates, struggle with communication, get lost easily, and often receive easy Achievements in public games.

Bots: These AI companions try their best to shoot Infected and assist players. They cannot use Grenades, Super Weapons, Machine Guns, Defibrillators, or Ammo Packs. Bots always stick near human players, do not engage in friendly fire, and do not intentionally activate Crescendos or Finales. They can teleport to human survivors if far behind or lost and will heal any human player or fellow bot if injured. Bots typically pick up the nearest Tier 1 Weapon, prefer Tier 2 Weapons based on their character, and will grab the nearest available Tier 2 Weapon if their preferred one isn't found. They tend to favor Pistols over Melee Weapons and cannot sacrifice themselves in The Sacrifice campaign.

Tips
  • Good Players: Invite them to be friends, play together again, and form groups. Have fun!
  • Bad Players: Leave them behind ("Leave THEM 4 Dead"), boot them from the game, convince others to vote them out, or constantly berate them to make them quit (Warning: this may backfire). You can also kill them repeatedly and refuse to help them.
  • New Players: Offer advice and orders. Suggest they play on Easy difficulty in Single Player first. Tell them to press Y to talk.
  • Bots: If severely injured, use a Health Kit before a Bot does to potentially save an extra kit. Heal unhealthy Bots similarly. Use the "Look!" command to prompt a Bot to pick up supplies. If a Bot is healing you, use your own Health Kit or Consumables to stop them.
