Mechanics:
Shadow Pokémon have a purple bar on their stats screen called the "Shadow Gauge," which has 5 levels. To purify a Shadow Pokémon, you must lower this gauge by keeping it in your party, battling with it, leaving it in the Daycare, or using Scents on it.
When a Shadow Pokémon uses the move Shadow Rush, it may enter "Hyper Mode." While in Hyper Mode, you cannot use items on the Pokémon, and Shadow Rush is more likely to land a critical hit. You can use the "Call" command from the main battle menu (Fight, Pokémon, Items, Call) to interact with your Pokémon.
As the Pokémon's "Heart Gauge" (implied to be the Shadow Gauge) decreases, it will remember its regular moves. The first move is remembered at 20% purification, the second at 60%, and the third at 80%. The Pokémon's nature is revealed at 40% purification. When the Heart Gauge is empty, the Pokémon is 99.9% purified. Taking it to the Relic Stone in Agate Village (after defeating Miror B.) will fully purify it (100%), causing it to forget Shadow Rush and learn a fourth, often powerful, move. It will also regain all its accumulated EXP as a Shadow Pokémon, usually resulting in several level-ups.
- Pyrite Town is a good place to start purifying your Shadow Pokémon.
- The game becomes noticeably harder in Pyrite Town.
