Learn how to defeat Jasmine and earn the Mineral Badge in Pokémon Gold and Silver, along with TM23 (Iron Tail) and $3500!

Alright, let's get you that Mineral Badge! After you've dealt with Chuck in Cianwood City, a friendly lady outside the gym will hand you HM02 (Fly). This is super handy for zipping around the map, so make sure to keep it safe. Once you've healed up at the Pokémon Center, it's time to fly over to Olivine City.

Before we head to the gym, there are a couple of neat items you can grab now that you have Fly and Strength. If you head back to the Slowpoke Well, go all the way to the end where you fought those Team Rocket grunts. Use Strength to push that boulder aside, then Surf across the water. You can go west and north to find a guy who'll give you a King's Rock (this can make Pokémon flinch more and helps evolve Slowpoke/Poliwhirl into Slowking/Politoed when traded) or head east and north for TM18 (Rain Dance). If you check out the Burned Tower, there's a Strength boulder on the first floor you can push to get TM20 (Endure).

Now, back in Olivine City, make your way to the Glitter Lighthouse in the southeast. You should remember how to get to the top from your last visit. Once you reach Jasmine, give her the Secret Potion you got in Cianwood. She'll use it to heal her Ampharos, and then you can head back to the Gym.

The Olivine City Gym is in the northern part of town. Don't worry about any puzzles or trainers here; it's just a straight shot north to challenge Jasmine!

This battle is pretty straightforward. Those first two Magnemite are identical, so take them out the same way. Their Thunderbolt is the biggest threat, but if you use Ground-type Pokémon, you'll hit them for quadruple damage and completely bypass their Electric attacks! If you don't have a Ground type, don't sweat it too much. Supersonic can be annoying, but Sonicboom won't do much damage at this point. Thunder Wave can also mess with your Speed, but it's not too hard to outspeed them anyway. Any decent Fire, Ground, or Fighting type should handle them easily. Ground moves are your best bet for super-effective damage.

Steelix is a bit trickier. Jasmine's Sunny Day move doesn't do much for you unless you're using Water-types, but if you have a Fire-type Pokémon, it'll actually help you out since Fire moves deal extra damage against Steelix. Its physical Defense is super high, so physical attacks won't be as effective. However, its Special Attack isn't that great, and its Attack stat is only slightly better than the Magnemites'. Your best bet here is to use Water or Fire Pokémon to take it down quickly. Steelix's Iron Tail is its main offensive threat if your Pokémon aren't resistant to Steel, but overall, it's not as tough as it looks!
