Get Ho-Oh in Pokémon Gold and Silver

After defeating the final Rocket Executive atop the Radio Tower and clearing Team Rocket from Johto, you'll receive the Rainbow Wing from the Radio Tower's Director. This item allows you to find the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh in the Tin Tower in Ecruteak City.

Note: Version-Exclusivity / Optional Quest

The quest for Ho-Oh (Gold Version) and Lugia (Silver Version) is version-exclusive. While you can obtain the other legendary later, this guide focuses on Ho-Oh in Pokémon Gold. This quest is optional; you can proceed to Blackthorn City via Mahogany Town and the Ice Path if you prefer. It's recommended to pursue this quest after obtaining the eighth Johto Gym Badge, as Professor Elm in New Bark Town offers a Master Ball, which can aid in capture. However, capturing Ho-Oh earlier is advised to prevent underleveling and to face a Level 70 opponent later.

Walkthrough

After receiving the Rainbow Wing, heal your Pokémon at a Pokémon Center and Fly to Ecruteak City.

In Ecruteak City, head north from the Pokémon Center. Find a building west of a small pond. Enter it, go north, downstairs, north, upstairs, then east and outside. Follow the path through the trees to reach the Tin Tower.

Tin Tower - 1F & 2F: Navigate to the north side of 1F to reach 2F, then go to the south side of 2F to reach 3F.

Tin Tower - 3F: Use the ramps (ledges) to navigate. From the entrance, go west over a ramp to find a Full Heal. Use the northeast ramp to return. Continue east, jump over the next ramp, then go north across more ramps to the central pillar. West of the pillar, use the ramps to reach the west wall, then go north and over more ramps to the northeastern section with a ladder to 4F.

Tin Tower - 4F: At the first path divergence, go south. At the second divergence, you can go west for an Ultra Ball or south for a Super Potion. You can backtrack later for the other item. Follow the linear path to the southwestern part of the room to find an Escape Rope and another ladder. Go northeast from the Escape Rope, over two ramps, then north over two more ramps to the northwestern part of the room. You can take the ladder here to 5F or use the ramps to return to the start of the floor to collect the other item (Ultra Ball/Super Potion).

Tin Tower - 5F: Start in the northwest corner. Go north and east to find a series of ramps.
