Complete Tomb Raider II Venice walkthrough. Learn how to defeat enemies, find pickups, and earn Trophies in Level 02.
Pickups: 30; Trophies: 4; Kills: 24
New Game+ Notes:
- Complete this level without using any Medi Packs to save them for later.
- Make risk vs. reward decisions about ammo expenditure for optional enemies. Only defeat enemies with pistols once the exit is accessible.
- Avoid using boats to make exiting the level easier.
- 1About halfway down the first alley, a dog will appear. Shoot it while hopping backwards.
- 2In the open space ahead, a sniper is located above and to your right. Side jump into the space and continue side jumping while shooting. Side jumping while shooting at distant enemies generally results in much less damage.
- 3Rotate to face the alley with brick walls opposite the sniper. When you cross the near boundary of the alley, a dog will come towards you. Shoot it while backhopping.
- 4Return to the brick-lined alley. When you step on the fifth row of floor stones, a club-wielding thug will come towards you. Shoot him while back flipping. Collect the small Medi Pack he drops.
- 5Run forward past the hut on your right, dive into the canal, and swim under the boathouse door just ahead and slightly to the right.
- 6Climb out onto the ledge to your right and flip the switch on the left.
- 7Return to the hut you passed earlier. Grab the flares off the first-floor table and press the nearby switch to open the way upward.
- 8Go up a floor and backflip off the ladder to press another switch. Climb up another level and dismount in front of the window to the right.
- 9You can either follow the directions below or shoot out the glass.
- 10Climb up onto the window ledge and stand with Lara pressed against the glass. Jump forward. Lara should break the glass.
- 11Rotate left and advance just beyond the window. This will release a dog in front of you, so take it out with your pistols.
- 12Shoot out the glass directly across from the one you just jumped through. Jump to the red awning and then to the balcony to retrieve the Boathouse Key from the sniper. (Note: In a speed run, you can do without this key.)
- 13Return to the room from which the dog came. Turn left and go down the dead-end hallway to flip a switch.
- 14Back in the dog room, shoot out another window, make a running jump/grab to the red awnings across the canal, and pull up.
- 15Rotate left and jump across the awnings to the open door. Enter the room, flip a switch, and dive into the water.
- 16Swim back under the boathouse door, pull onto the ledge to the right, and use the Boathouse Key in the lock to the right to open the door. Save your game, as you have just released a gunman back on the walkway in front of the hut.
- 17Jump in the water and swim to the far left side of that walk. Pull out and use the Run and Roll technique to defeat the gunman, claiming his Automatic Pistols for your trouble.
- 18Skip the 2 lavender boxes below.
Conflicting Trophy Alert! There are 3 Trophies in this level related to boats. One is for completing the level without using a boat, and two require using a boat. To earn all Trophies, save before using a boat, earn the Trophy, and then reload your save file. Your long-term save file should not include boat usage.
Trophy Time -- Let's Saddle Up:
This Trophy is earned for jumping into the boat from the highest height possible. The upper room where you just flipped a switch is this highest height.
- Save your game.
- Get in the boat in the boathouse and position it centered between the wall and the walkway (port and starboard).
- Line up the seat with the edge of the walkway (fore and aft) to match Lara's jump length.
- Make the long climb back up to the upper ledge and position Lara on the edge of the ledge, aimed at the boat seat.
- Make a NEW save here, then do a standing swan dive.
- If you miss the boat, try other jumps from up here first. As a last resort, jump into the canal, reposition the boat, climb back up, save again, and try again.
- Once the Trophy pops, reload the game file in which the boat is still in the boathouse. Confirm this before moving on.
- UPDATE: On Xbox One, a running swan dive from the upper ledge may be required if the standing swan dive does not trigger the Trophy.
Tips:
- Side jumping while shooting at distant enemies generally results in much less damage.
- Use Flares to see in the many dark areas of the level.
- Consider avoiding boats to simplify exiting the level.
