Tomb Raider II was the first game I bought for my Playstation 1, and it was one of the first games for which I wrote a guide. As time went on, interest in the game (and my guide!) waned, and I found myself moving on to other pursuits. Then the release of the Remastered version of the game spurred renewed interest in the franchise, and the introduction of Trophies gave me a reason to write a new guide.
I think that you will find this guide to be unique. Most Trophy Guides will tell (or show) you _how_ to obtain a Trophy, but a rare few will also show you precisely _when_ to obtain it. By contrast, this guide integrates a traditional walkthrough with a Trophy guide. It will take you through the game from beginning to end, documenting nearly every jump and battle, and then pausing the action at each optimum point for pursuing a Trophy. Hence the description, "Walkthrough and Trophy Guide".
There are 66 Trophies that can be earned in this game. If you follow this guide from the "Lara's Home" prologue to the "Home Sweet Home" epilogue, you will emerge with 61 of the 66 Trophies in a single pass through the game. I'll then walk you step-by-step through 3 of the remaining 5 Trophies. The last 2 Trophies require separate runs through the entire game, so detailed step-by-step descriptions for these would not be practical. Instead, I'll offer some general guidance and resources for earning those last 2 Trophies.
For the record, my previous guide for TR2 (which is still available here on GameFAQs) documents how to complete the game without using any Medi Packs, and many of the strategies embedded in that guide are described here as well. Although the Remastered version of this game does not offer a Trophy for a no-health-pack game, I would argue that those same skills will aid you in earning the Starring One More Time Trophy, which is granted for completing the New Game+ version. So, although some of my battle descriptions might come off as being overly cautious, I hope that you will find them to be ultimately beneficial.
Who This Guide is For
This guide was written primarily for use by those who are playing the Remastered version of the game and are seeking to earn all of the Trophies. At this point in time, I figure this describes the majority of people who are currently playing this game.
If you are playing the Remastered version but don't care about the Trophies, or if you are playing the original PS1 or PC version of the game, then this guide will still work for you, with the following qualifications.
- In this walkthrough, pistols are the only weapons used. This handicap is put in place in order to earn the Very Hard Boiled Trophy. If Trophies are not an issue for you, feel free to use whatever weapons you have on hand.
- When the path that leads to a Trophy is not the optimal path for someone for whom Trophies are not an issue, more appropriate directions will be give to this latter group. This will be explained more thoroughly in the next section of this guide.
Quality Control
I want to emphasize to you that everything in the guide _works_. I did not record a battle strategy here until I had fought that battle multiple times in different ways and was convinced that a gamer of average skills could consistently duplicate my success with a minimum number of attempts. I'm not claiming that my strategies are necessarily the "best" or even "easy". I do, however, believe that they are written clearly enough to be understood and followed by just about anyone and that, with a bit of practice, most people will find them to be very effective.
I need to temper that statement with a dollop of reality. I have put a LOT of information into this guide in a very short period of time, trying to get it published so that readers could benefit from it. I caught many errors when I proofread the sections, but I have no delusions that I caught them all. Please be understanding about minor typos and misdirections until I can play through the game using this guide another time or two.
That said, if you have reason to believe that anything in this guide is inaccurate, I hope that you will contact me either by email or through GameFAQs and, as politely as possible, let me know your concern. I am committed to making this guide (and, for that matter, all of my guides) as accurate and helpful as possible, and I would sincerely appreciate your help in making it meet these standards.
