Walkthrough
- 1Return to the room with the fountain. Jump into the pool and swim to a hole on the east side of the bottom. Swim through the hole, turn right, swim forward, and pull out. Stick your hand in the niche to activate a mechanism that drops an L-shaped section of floor elsewhere. Go back through the tunnel, rotate right, and pull out on the north side of the pool.
- 2Go up the curved pink stairs in the NE corner and through the opening at the top. Shoot the hollow bench (127) to your right and pick up the large medipack (374) that it contained.
- 3Continue north, then turn west to find 2 more benches (128-129), one in front of you and one to your left. Shoot them open for some crossbow ammo (375) and revolver ammo (376).
- 4Stand on the scarab symbol at the start of the hallway with ominous holes in the floor. Go to your menu and select the Mechanical Scarab and Combine it with the Winding Key. Then Use the Mechanical Scarab with Winding Key, and it will clear the path for you. Walk through the hallway and pick up the Mechanical Scarab at the end.
- 5In the room ahead, there are openings to the north and east. Go through the opening to the north (left), pass quickly through the doorway, which contains a scissors trap, and open the sarcophagus ahead and pull out the Right Gauntlet (377). This awakens a royal guard skeleton (1) to the right of the sarcophagus. Blast it with an explosive arrow. To exit past the scissors trap, line up with its center as close to the blades as you dare, and start a run through as soon as the blades start to separate.
- 6Go down the ramp, turn left, and go through the doorway to the east, causing a royal guard skeleton (2) to spawn to your right. Turn left, make a running jump across the pool, roll, equip your shotgun, and press Look so that you can see the skeleton. As soon as it jumps across to you, blow it back into the water.
Tips

- The level contains 373 pickups, 29 secrets, 402 trophies, and 124 vessels at the start, ending with 402 pickups, 54 secrets, 31 trophies, and 136 vessels.
- This level is going to take a serious toll on your exploding ammo. There are 12 enemies to kill, and each will take roughly 6 rounds, consuming about 72 of your exploding arrows. You'll pick up some exploding ammo along the way, but even so, your reserve of exploding arrows might go from about 125 at the start of the level to 84 at the end of the level.
- To conserve exploding ammo, a different path through the level is plotted, necessitating a rewrite of the middle section of the guide.
- There will be 2 large and 3 small medipacks to add to your collection, and all are easy to retrieve. Picking up one of the small medipacks precludes getting an exploding arrow pickup.
- You will encounter several hallways with spikes. The way to pass through safely is to use your Mechanical Scarab, combined with the Winding Key, to make an item that will pass through the hall triggering the spikes for you and making your passage safe.
- You can only use the Mechanical Scarab 3 times before it self-destructs, and you need one of those 3 uses to access the one and only Secret in this level. Be judicious about your use of this item.
- After letting the Mechanical Scarab clear a path for you, always be sure to pick it up at the far end after passing through the spikes.
- To make absolutely sure that you don't miss out on the Secret, make a Save file here and do not overwrite it until you have claimed the Secret.
- Starting from the point after the scissors trap, a different path is suggested to make optimum use of your exploding ammo.
