Alex O'Hirn, formerly employed as a weapons designer for Trask Industries, initially created the R.H.I.N.O. prototype as an autonomous battlefield combat unit. After the first R.H.I.N.O. unit was captured and destroyed by Iron Man, O'Hirn decided to pilot the suit himself. He abandoned the remote control aspect and inserted a cockpit into the R.H.I.N.O. v2.0.

Alex O'Hirn possesses a genius-level intellect but has no inherent super-powers or abilities of his own. His identity as R.H.I.N.O. is publicly known.
