Guide to Vampyr citizens: learn how embracing affects district health, XP gains, and how to get best-in-class weapons.

Each of the four inhabited districts in Vampyr has fifteen regular citizens and one "pillar" of the community. Regular citizens can be "embraced" (a mechanic requiring a certain Mesmerise level, starting at 1 and increasing to 5 at fixed game points) for significant XP. Pillars can only be embraced at specific story junctures when their fate is decided.

District health, which caps at 100% with all citizens present and healthy, is directly impacted by citizen well-being. Sick citizens reduce district health by approximately 2% each and yield less XP when killed. Killing a regular citizen lowers baseline district health by about 5%, while killing a pillar reduces it by approximately 30%. If district health drops below 50%, the district becomes hostile, leading to citizen disappearances and the spawning of enemies. Hostile districts cannot be restored.

Embracing Strategies

Killing all citizens immediately after learning about them is not optimal, as a hostile district results in the disappearance of all remaining inhabitants. A strategic approach is recommended.

Maximising Gain

Certain citizens offer unique benefits:

• Dyson Delaney (Level 1) allows incendiary shotgun damage before White Phosphorus is available.
• Newton Blight (Level 3) drops Newton's Saber, a top one-handed weapon.
• Corcoran Tippets (Level 2) provides Samuel Connor's Mace, the best two-handed weapon.
• Cristina Popa (Level 4) drops Cristina's Dagger, the best offhand weapon for blood absorption.
• Clarence Crossley (Level 3) drops Clarence's Parabellum, the best pistol.
• Louise Teasdale (Level 3) drops Louise's Machete, another excellent one-handed weapon.

• Seymour Fishburn (Level 3) is a serial killer.
• Martin Nightingale (Level 3) swindles a senile old woman.
• Clay Cox (Level 1) is a murderous thug.
• Cadogan Bates (Level 1) exploits penniless immigrants.
• Tobias Whitaker (Level 5) sets homeless people on fire.
• Carolyn Price (Level 3) abuses her daughter.

The demise of certain citizens can lead to positive outcomes for others:

• Killing Seymour Fishburn (Level 3) results in Rufus Kingsberry moving in with Stella Fishburn.
• Killing Beatrice Goswick (Level 4) stops Mortimer Goswick's suicidal tendencies.
• Killing Thoreau Strickland (Level 3) allows Waverley Ackroyd to successfully operate on Harvey Fiddick.
• Killing Corcoran Tippets (Level 2) leads to Gwyneth Branagan's promotion.
• Killing Clayton Darby (Level 4) enables Cristina Popa to open a shop.
• Carina Billow (Level 2) desires death.
