Once that's done, you'll need to follow them again as they exit through a corridor that's usually patrolled by more guards. Again, quickly hire the thieves nearby before they get too far ahead and have them draw the guards' attention away from you.

From this point on, it's mostly about patience. Whenever they stop, you stop. If there isn't a convenient crowd to disappear into, just hang back, stay behind a corner, or use any available cover to break their line of sight.
