Guide to completing the 'Holding The Fort' mission in Assassin's Creed II. Learn strategies for defending Caterina and Machiavelli, using the pistol refill, and optional objectives.

This mission is short and sweet. Very combat heavy as you've probably seen a pattern of. Lots of soldiers will climb in over the walls. While Caterina and Machiavelli have represented health bars, they will be better at protecting themselves this time around, so you shouldn't need to rush to their aid right away.

There is a glowing marker in front of a door in the courtyard. It will refill ammo for your pistol. If you start by fending off your initial attackers, try to climb one of the towers. The center tower between the one that Caterina is on and the one that Machiavelli is on can be used as a perch to shoot their attackers. That's up to you though. You can just as easily jump over there and slice them open if you'd prefer.

More enemies will likely come up to where you are and attack. Just wait and counter or take the offensive. You can throw them off as well to kill them. Eventually, you'll kill them all without too much trouble, ending this mission.

Before heading off to the next mission, I'll take this moment to mention that there is an optional memory that you might have noticed already. It's located in the absolute northeast corner fo the map, on top of the tower. What you'll find is Leonardo's flying machine. Now, before you get all giddy and excited, let me say that this is not a mission at all. All it is, is a chance to fly around and kick guards off rooftops. That's it. There's nowhere to go, no mission objective, or anything like that. If you don't have the "Flyswatter" Trophy, you can try to get it there. Just be advised, if you crash, you'll wind up back in the city again. Which sucks.

Talk to Caterina at the top of the tower where you left off. Start the next mission by doing so.
