Battlefield 1 Over the Top walkthrough: Drive the tank Black Bess, destroy 35-36 field guns, and find collectibles.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Use the left stick for movement and the right stick to aim. Press R2/RT to fire and R1/RB to spot enemy emplacements.
  2. 2
Press Triangle/Y to toggle between cannons (for larger targets) and machineguns (for infantry). Press D-pad up to zoom.
  3. 3
Hold D-pad down for approximately seven seconds to repair your tank's health by 20%.
  4. 4
After capturing the "C" flag, hold Square/X to exit "Black Bess" and use the repair tool gadget for faster repairs.
  5. 5
Prioritize destroying field guns and enemy tanks as they can inflict heavy damage. Anti-tank grenades are less of a threat due to their slow fuses.
  6. 6
Codex Entry - German Anti-Tank Tactics: Destroy all FK 96 field guns (small artillery cannons). There are 35 or 36 in total. Some may be buggy or destroyed before you find them.
  7. 7
Find field guns by listening for their firing sound, watching for shell impacts, listening for callouts from Townsend, or spotting them with R1/RB.
  8. 8
A single direct hit from a main tank cannon destroys a field gun. Use D-pad up to zoom and aim high for long-range shots. Destroyed guns will smoke and have wonky wheels.
  9. 9

  11. 11
Field Guns - at "B" (Kitchener's Ridge): 6. In the middle, on the right side of the central road. 7. On the right, past two small buildings, next to the line of trees. 8. On the left, in front of the middle small building in a row of three. 9. On the left, behind the third small building.
  12. 12
Field Gun - advancing on "C" (Beren's Crossing): 10. In the centre, just to the right of the flag, aiming down the road.
  13. 13
Field Guns - at "C" (Beren's Crossing): 11. To the right of the road, behind the flag and in front of a building. 12. To the right of the road, on the right side of the same building. 13. On the left side, within a group of buildings and next to a brick pillar.
  14. 14
Codex Entry - Observation Balloons: After capturing "C" point, you must exit the tank and get five kills as infantry. You start with a Mauser pistol and can pick up other weapons.
  15. 15
Field Guns - advancing on the first three artillery targets: 14. Immediately to the left of the green weapon tent. 15. A short way to the left of the previous one. 16. Immediately to the right of the green weapon tent. 17. On the right but farther back, in front of the church tower.
  16. 16
Field Manual #1: Exit the tank and go to the green tent marked with an "X". The field manual crate is south-east of the tent, next to a large pile of empty artillery shell cases.
  17. 17

  18. 18

Tips
  • You can reconfigure your controller layout in the Controls > Control Schemes menu. The Veteran option for Ground Vehicle Buttons places accelerate/reverse on the triggers and fire on L1/LB.
  • You can change the Weapon Zoom control option to specify whether you press or hold to zoom.
  • Spotting (R1/RB) marks both field guns and machineguns. While not required for the codex entry, destroying MGs helps infantry advance. Manned weapons have a red diamond marker, unmanned ones have a grey marker.
  • When aiming at long range, aim high to compensate for gravity.
  • You can enter and exit the tank anytime after capturing "C" point by holding Square/X.
