Part 8

Complete Battlefield 1's Part 8 guide, detailing how to unlock all codex entries for each war story and achieve specific feats for trophies like 'Up Close and Personal' and 'Mightier than the Shovel'.

The game's codex is a World War I encyclopedia with over 200 unlockable entries filed under five categories: The Weapons, The War, The Vehicles, The Tactics, and The World. You can view unlocked pages from the main menu under Soldier > Codex. Locked entries show their unlock requirements. A total of 53 codex entries can be unlocked in the campaign by completing challenges and finding all field manuals. Progress saves immediately after unlocking an entry. The remaining 145 codex articles are unlocked by completing requirements in online multiplayer matches.

Codex Trophies

• 17 Taking down Giants [Silver/40G]: Unlock all codex entries in 'Friends in High Places'.
• 18 All Men Dream* [Silver/40G]: Unlock all codex entries in 'Nothing is Written'. This trophy is named for a quote from 'Seven Pillars of Wisdom', Lawrence of Arabia's book.
• 19 Sound of Thunder [Silver/40G]: Unlock all codex entries in 'Through Mud and Blood'.
• 20 Conquering the Mountains* [Silver/40G]: Unlock all codex entries in 'Avanti Savoia!'. This refers to the painting 'Conquering the Mountains' by Cyrus Cuneo.
• 21 The Hills of Gallipoli [Silver/40G]: Unlock all codex entries in 'The Runner'.

Feats Trophies

• 22 Up Close and Personal [Bronze/10G]: Perform a melee kill on 10 enemies anywhere in the campaign. Press R3 (right stick) for melee, or use the 'Alternate' Soldier Sticks setting. Creeping up behind an enemy provides a one-hit takedown. Stealth tactics, crouching, avoiding sprinting, and using distractions (press touchpad/Back button) are recommended.
• 23 Mightier than the Shovel* [Bronze/10G]: Find the hidden cavalry sword and take down an enemy in the 'Breakdown' chapter of 'Through Mud and Blood'. After finding the first spark-plug, go east, then south to the village. Enter the building on the left (north side) with a German flag. The cavalry sword is on the floor under a table in the first room. Press Square (X on Xbox) to pick it up. Use binoculars (hold R1/RB) or the suppressed sniper rifle to tag/kill enemies from a distance. Be aware of guards, including one from the upper floor. The cavalry sword replaces your shovel.
• 24 Shock Wave [Bronze/10G]: Kill 5 enemies using dynamite in the campaign. Dynamite can be found in medium-sized weapon crates, often in green weapon tents. Equip dynamite and select it with d-pad left or right. Press L2/LT to toss one.
