Unlock Battlefield 1's 'Advanced Studies' and 'Modern Technology' trophies. Learn where to find the Livens Projector and Broken Bottle, and how to get those tricky kills.

Alright, let's dive into Part 40 of our Battlefield 1 journey! This section is all about snagging a couple of specific trophies: 'Advanced Studies' and 'Modern Technology'. They might sound a bit daunting, but I'll walk you through exactly where to find the gear you need and how to use it effectively. Don't worry, we'll get these Bronze trophies sorted in no time!

48 Advanced Studies [Bronze/25G]

This trophy requires you to get one kill using the Livens Projector. Think of this as a stationary, gas-spewing turret. It's available on all three of the new Apocalypse expansion maps.

The Livens Projector is basically a setup of twenty tubes in the ground, connected to a detonator on a crate. When you activate it, it automatically fires poison gas at the nearest flag in Conquest mode, covering a big area for about twenty seconds. After it fires, it needs a 120-second cooldown, and a red light will turn on when it's ready to go again.

Where to Find the Livens Projector:

  • River Somme (Conquest Assault): You'll find it in the middle of the main British trench, between the two mounted machine guns. It's aimed towards Wellington Farm (the 'A' flag). The indicator light here is on a trench wall, so keep an eye out.
  • Passchendaele (Conquest): Look for the Gaswurfminen (that's the German name for it) at the east end of the main trench, in the German spawn area. It's in front of a concrete bunker, near some camo netting, and fires towards Adler Ridge ('E' flag). The indicator light is on a lamppost here.
  • Caporetto (Conquest Assault): This map has five launchers! The first one is in the Austro-Hungarian deployment area, near the vehicles, aimed at the 'A' flag. As your team captures flags, more launchers become available: the one at 'A' aims at 'B', 'B' at 'C', 'C' at 'D', and 'D' at 'E'. The indicator lights are usually on lampposts.

Getting the Kill:

To actually get a kill, you need enemies in the target area. The best time to use it is when you know players are defending a flag or actively capturing it. Caporetto is your best bet with its multiple launchers; you can even check the map on the respawn screen and spawn directly near a launcher if your team holds a flag and the next one is contested.

Quick History Note: The Livens Projector was a real British invention, and the Germans copied it as the Gaswurfminen. Using either in-game counts for the trophy!

49 Modern Technology [Bronze/50G]

For this trophy, you need to get one kill with the Broken Bottle. This is a melee weapon, and you unlock it by getting five kills with the Wine Bottle, which is a pickup item on these new maps.

How to Get the Wine Bottle:

When you're near a Wine Bottle pickup, you'll get a prompt to grab it. It'll equip as your melee weapon, but it disappears if you get a kill, switch weapons, or use a gadget. It's a one-hit kill against standard infantry, and you don't need to be behind them – it works from the front too!

Important: The Wine Bottle only spawns once per match. Once it's picked up, it's gone for that game. So, you need to find it and get a kill before someone else does or before you switch away from it.

Wine Bottle Locations (Apocalypse Maps):

  • Passchendaele:
    • Second concrete bunker west of 'E' flag.
    • On a table in a wooden shelter east of 'E' flag (near wagons/crates).
    • Under a wooden shelter southwest of 'C' flag.
    • On a wooden platform in the trench west of the bunker at 'B' flag.
    • In a long trench northeast from the church ruins at 'A' flag.
  • Caporetto:
    • Rear of the wagon near the big broken bridge.
    • Near the flagpole at 'D' flag.
    • South end of the small bridge at 'C' flag.
    • Next to the bench south of 'B' flag (past the main building ruins).
    • By one of the paired statues northeast of 'B' flag.
    • In the wide trench east of 'A' flag, between two covered trench sections.
  • River Somme:
    • Southwest corner of the building north of 'A' flag.
    • Back of the bottom floor of the windmill at 'B' flag.
    • Northeast corner of the house at 'C' flag.
    • Next to a large machine by the tall factory chimney at 'E' flag.
    • Next to sacks southwest of 'F' flag, west of the burning train wagon.

Unlocking the Broken Bottle:

After you've secured five kills with the Wine Bottle, the Broken Bottle will unlock. You can then select it in your loadouts. It's a fast, knife-like weapon with quick light attacks, and it also performs the standard melee takedown from behind.

Pro Tip: For some extra flair, try to get your first Broken Bottle kill on a Flametrooper. If you've also got the 'Firefighter' trophy (#47), you can snag both at once!

50 Flyswatter [Bronze/50G]

This trophy requires you to destroy 5 airplanes while piloting the Behemoth Airship L30. Make sure you're using the L30, the bigger airship with six seats, not the smaller C-Class airship. You'll find the L30 spawning as a Behemoth on several Conquest and Operations maps.
