Learn how to build your own tavern with Barkeeper thralls and prepare for the Siege of Al-Merayah in Conan Exiles. Master PvE sieges and get the best loot!

Hey there, Exile! So, you're looking to dive into the Taverns and Siege of Al-Merayah update for Conan Exiles? Awesome! This guide will walk you through setting up your own cozy tavern and tackling that epic siege.

First off, the tavern system is available on both the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah, which is great. However, it feels like the Exiled Lands get a bit more love with updates, and the Siege of Al-Merayah is exclusive to it. If you're just getting back into the game, I'd suggest starting on the Exiled Lands to experience the siege firsthand.

Setting Up Your Tavern

To get your tavern up and running, you'll need a special NPC called a Barkeeper thrall. You'll most reliably find these guys chilling in cages within purge camps. Grab one and bring them back to your base. Usually, thralls from purge camps are already loyal, so you won't need to break them in. If you want to know more about the Purge system, there's a great guide on that!

Once you've got your Barkeeper, you just need to craft a Tavern Bar. You can find the recipe in your build menu under 'Countertops and Bars.' It'll cost you 80 Wood and 10 Iron Reinforcement. This bar acts like any other crafting station, so you can assign your Barkeeper to it. After that, feel free to build whatever you want around it to make it feel like a proper tavern!

A key thing to remember for your tavern is that you need to place a good number of seats and tables in a decent-sized area. This is what encourages NPCs to visit. You'll see them showing up as potential recruits or even traders, which is super handy.

The Siege of Al-Merayah - A PvE Fortress Assault

As mentioned, this awesome siege is only in the Exiled Lands. It's built into an existing part of the map, so it makes sense, but it's a bummer for Siptah players. Hopefully, they'll get something similar soon!

What's cool about this siege is that it brings a taste of PvP action into the PvE world. For the first time, you can actually attack and destroy structures like you would on a PvP server, but against AI. You can bring out the big guns like trebuchets and battering rams to tear down the fortress of Al-Merayah. It's a blast!

Finding the Siege of Al-Merayah

If you're not super familiar with the Exiled Lands map, the fortress is located northeast of Mek-Kamoses's Spire, pretty much in the center of the map. Just look for it there!

The whole point of this update is to give you a chance to get back at those pesky Stygians, the same folks who sometimes show up during the Purge. You can take on their base solo, with your thralls, or rally up some friends on a PvE server. Going in alone is tough, though, because the fortress is packed with enemies and defenses. But hey, you can totally use stealth to bypass some of the fights if you're clever.

No matter how you approach the siege, each run should feel a bit different with enemy placements changing. The final boss, however, stays the same. You can even sneak all the way to their chamber at the top if you've got some good climbing skills, skipping most of the other enemies. While the boss chamber has some of the best loot, you'll miss out on a ton more if you skip the rest of the fortress. So, if you have the time, it's definitely worth clearing the whole place out!

That's the lowdown on setting up your tavern and taking on the Siege of Al-Merayah! If you're looking for more tips on the Age of War update, check out the guides on surviving the Purge, understanding Purge rewards, and finding heroic treasure locations.
