How to Claim Land

Learn how to claim land in Conan Exiles to build your base. Understand decay timers, how to place foundations, and what to do with abandoned bases.

Alright, so you want to build a sweet base in Conan Exiles, huh? That's awesome! The first thing you need to know about is 'Claimed Land'. Basically, it's a bubble around your stuff that says 'This is mine!' The size of this bubble is set by the server, and how many bases you can have depends on the server rules, but usually, you can have more than one. Now, this claimed land isn't permanent. Everything you place down – your base, your crafting stations, even chests – has a decay timer. On most servers, this timer is set to 336 hours (that's two weeks!). If you let it run out, your base will eventually disappear after another 48 hours, freeing up the land. Smaller items like chests might have much shorter timers, sometimes as little as two hours. You can check these timers with a Repair Hammer. The good news is, whenever you interact with your base or an item, the timer resets, so as long as you're playing regularly, your stuff should be safe.

Now, if you're playing solo or on a private server you control, you can mess with these timers. But for everyone else on PVE or PVP servers, claimed land is super important for keeping things fair. To claim a spot, it's pretty simple: just place down an item, like a foundation or even a Bedroll. This tells the game, 'Hey, I want this area!' You won't be able to build or place anything in a spot that's already claimed by someone else, so keep an eye out for that.

Found an abandoned base? Nice! Once the server decides the old owner has abandoned it (after the decay timer runs out), you can swoop in and claim it yourself. If you're on a PVP server, you can even try to destroy other players' bases. Just a heads-up, though: trying to steal a base by destroying their Bedroll might not be worth the effort. The basic Fiber Bedrolls have 5,000 health, which is a lot of hitting for a single item.
