Follow our Dark Souls Remastered guide to conquer the Demon Ruins, defeat the Demon Firesage boss, and find valuable items like the Large Flame Ember and Demon's Catalyst.

Teleport to Blighttown and make your way to the Great Hollow. Somewhere along the right swamp wall leading up to the Great Hollow is Siegmeyer. He will ask for some Purple Moss to help him get through the swamp. Say "YES" when asked to offer him 3 Purple Moss Clumps and you will receive a Pierce Shield. He will now move to Lost Izalith which will be after the next area. Return to the Chaos Servant Bonfire and continue into the Demon Ruins. Make sure you are in the Chaos Servant Covenant and are Rank +2 or higher. Also, make sure you are human at this stage.

Make your way down to the lowest area. If you haven't killed Ceaseless Discharge, do so now. If you are following this guide, we already killed it after Quelaag and the floor should now be mostly clear of lava. Follow the right hand wall behind you until you reach an item and a Capra Demon. Grab the Soul of a Proud Knight and deal with the Capra Demon in the same manner as you did against the Capra Demon boss. Run past the Capra Demon along the walkway, making sure you hug the left hand side to avoid the hole in the floor.

Kirk will invade you again for the second time as you make your way down the path. Before you reach the end, turn around to find Kirk at the top of the path. He shouldn't be an issue but the narrow path can make rolling very dangerous. Watch out for any holes that you may fall through while fighting Kirk. Just a few pokes with the Halberd should suffice. You will get a Humanity added to your counter for killing him here and a chance to grab his weapon or shield.

Proceed down the path. The next area is full of Capra Demons. However, there is nothing on the top path so you can drop off just before you reach the end of the walkway to land on a lower level. Grab the Soul of a Proud Knight and a new enemy guarding the Bonfire.

--Burrowing Rockworm--
Rockworms can be tough and shouldn't be underestimated. However, they cannot move and apart from a projectile spit, they have no way of reaching you outside of melee. Its best to avoid these creatures whenever you can but it is possible to hit them with a melee weapon without aggroing them by using a long weapon such as a Halberd. Their projectile can degrade your weapons so avoid getting hit by that.
Drops: Green Titanite Shard, Red Titanite Chunk

Use all the Pyromancies at your disposal to kill this Rockworm so you can access the Bonfire. Run to the very end of this level and underneath the staircase, grab the Green Titanite Shard x2. Hanging on the right hand balcony is a Soul of a Proud Knight. In case you are wondering, the object just underneath this item is a boss so take a peek as we will be fighting it soon. At the top of the stairs, is a new enemy.

--Demonic Statue--
These statues often are immobile and will act when the player passes close to them. However, they are of little threat. They can breath a flame breath either straight in front of them or breath flames from left to right. Ultimately, these are pretty simple enemies and shouldn't pose a challenge.
Drops: N/A

Run down the stairs and kill all the Demonic Statues along the way. Run straight up the middle and kill the Taurus Demon here. Again, like the Capra Demons, the Taurus Demon is pretty much identical to the Taurus Demon boss we fought really earlier in the game. Head to the left and drop attack the Taurus Demon below, then kill the one further on. When they are dead, continue onwards. As you make your way to the end, a few Rockworms will drop down. Run past them and grab the Large Flame Ember from the chest. This Ember can be given to Vamos to upgrade Fire Weapons further. Get past the Rockworms again. Use your Pyromancies if need be or just sprint past them.

Back at the large stairs, head up and go right this time. Kill the Capra Demon up here and grab the Soul of a Brave Warrior next to it. Kill the two Demonic Statues outside the fog wall then go through the fog wall and enter it for a boss fight.

--BOSS: Demon Firesage --
Well, if it isn't another Asylum Demon reskin.
Hammer Swings
The boss can swing its hammer horizontally twice or smash it into the ground twice. Like the Stray Demon, Firesage can jump at the player, slamming its hammer into the ground to damage them. Staying behind the boss can avoid many of the Firesage's hammer attacks and staying close prevents Firesage from doing the jump slam. The swings the boss does can also create a ranged AoE blast as well so watch out for lingering hitboxes. The slam can also have an AoE on it but should be easy to avoid when the hammer is raised heavily.
Slam
The boss can also fly up in the air and slam down. Should be pretty easy to avoid when you see the boss fly up in the air.
Strategy
Not much can be said about this boss. It is identical to Stray Demon, the only difference being the red fiery look the boss has and some ranged explosions on a few hammer swings. Therefore, use the same strategy you used for Stray Demon and to a lesser extent, the Asylum Demon. Stay behind the boss as much as you can to avoid the hammer attacks. Keep an eye out for any swing that comes a bit further back then normal. Run away when the boss flies and run back once the slam is done, bearing in mind the potential AoE blast. Try and avoid locking on the boss as the Halberd can occasionally miss because of the lock on angle. Try and keep the boss away from the walls or the camera might go crazy and obstruct your view. Ultimately, this fight is just another Stray Demon and shouldn't be too difficult.

Defeating the boss will get you a Humanity and the boss will also drop the Demon's Catalyst. Make sure to pick this item up as it is not given to you like most boss drops. Run to the end of the room and up the stairs, killing any Demonic Statues along the way. When you see three Demonic Statues huddled together, kill them to get a Soul of a Brave Warrior.
