Part 5 of the Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze guide covers various items and mechanics found throughout the game, including different types of barrels, interactive environmental objects, and items available for purchase at Funky's Fly 'N' Buy.
Barrels and Other Stuff You'll Find:
- Barrel
- A throwable item that damages enemies.
- Kong Barrel
- When broken, releases a partner Kong (Diddy, Dixie, or Cranky). Some barrels flip between Kongs, allowing player choice. Ground-pounding or picking up a barrel stops it from rotating. Breaking a Kong Barrel restores all health to both Kongs.
- Slot Barrel
- Marks the end of most levels. Jumping into it yields a prize: banana bunch, banana coin, life balloon, or DK icon. The DK icon allows for a chance to win up to 15 extra lives by repeatedly pressing X or Y.
- Barrel Cannon
- Floating barrels that launch Donkey Kong in a specific direction. Those with skulls break after one use.
- Blast Barrel
- Auto-fire barrels that launch Donkey Kong automatically. Those with skulls break after one use.
- Mine Cart
- A rideable cart that moves automatically. Players can jump over and duck under obstacles.
- Rocket Barrel
- A barrel that launches Donkey Kong. Pressing the jump button makes it ascend, releasing makes it descend. Avoid obstacles.
- Rambi Crate
- Contains Rambi the rhino. Ground-pounding it releases Rambi, who can break objects with his logo.
- Bouncy Platform
- Objects like tires and mushrooms that provide extra height when jumped on, useful for reaching difficult areas.
- Climbable Surface
- Surfaces on walls or ceilings that Donkey Kong can grab and traverse.
- Vine
- Swinging vines that can be grabbed and jumped off in either direction.
- Handles
- Objects that can be pulled to reveal secret items and passageways.
- Flowers
- Plants that react to a ground-pound, potentially yielding items. Treasure chests and urns react similarly.
