You begin in a bedroom speaking with your sister, Tania. Regardless of your answer, you are instructed to visit the Mayor. Examine the top drawer of the chest to the right of the beds to find a [LEATHER HAT]. You can access the full menu by pressing X. Go to Items, equip the hat, and note that your hero has a Cypress Stick, Plain Clothes, 70 Gold, is level 1 with no experience, and no mastered skills.

Enter the kitchen and break the first pot for [10 GOLD COINS]. The barrel in the lower corner of the three contains a [SEED OF AGILITY]. Leave the house and explore the village. First, go to the church and save your game. Speak with the nun to learn about the village customs, the Spirit Crown, and the Fortune Festival.

Press Y to view Map Info within a town, showing your location and building functions. In this town, you'll see icons for the church (candlestick), Item Shop (small bag), Weapon Shop (crossed swords), and Pub (beer mug).

Break the right barrel by the door of the small building below the church to find [10 GOLD COINS]. Inside, you'll find carvers and weavers. To the right, a small boy facing a wall is up to something; examine the wall. Enter the pub and break the lower barrel by the door for [3 GOLD COINS]. Chat with the patrons, including the barmaid, for information. Buddy's dad is upstairs, but there's nothing else to find. The weapon and item shops are closed until you visit the Mayor.

The Mayor's house is on the hill behind the church. Hop down the well nearby and speak with the Seaslime about their friend Curie. Enter the lower left house and break the barrel in the hay barn for a [SEED OF RESILIENCE]. A child near the exit will tell you your hometown's name.

You can leave the village and walk south to some steps. Buddy will block your path, telling you to see the Mayor. There are no enemies here, and the area is surrounded by cliffs, so visiting the Mayor is your only option.

Go to the large house at the back of town. Break the upper of the two pots near the house for a [MEDICINAL HERB]. Inside, break the pot left of the sink for an [ANTIDOTAL HERB]. Check the bookcase for a slime joke from "The Quotable Slime: Volume One." Speak with Judith.

Finally, speak with Mayor Spindel. Answer no when asked about village exports. You must accept his mission: travel to Haggleton and sell the [VILLAGE GOODS] from the bag to fund the purchase of the Spirit Crown for the festival.

The shops are now open. Armor is sold at both. If you played DQV, prices are familiar. A new 'Style' statistic is shown when equipping items, in addition to attack or defense.

Only buy the Leather Shield, as you will soon find better equipment and have limited funds. The suit of armor in the weapon shop, sparkling with a blue light, is important for later. Save your game, equip your items, and then leave the village.
