Embark on your Mercenary journey in Fantasy Life! Learn how to wield greatswords, defeat fearsome foes, and become a legendary mercenary with this expert guide.

Alright, let's get you started on the Mercenary path in Fantasy Life! It's a pretty straightforward start, mostly about getting you familiar with your first weapon and a couple of basic enemies. Think of this as your Mercenary orientation. We'll head to The Crown tavern, meet your master, get your first sword, and then learn the ropes. Don't worry, it's all pretty chill.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
First things first, you need to meet your Mercenary master, Cervantes. He's hanging out at a place called The Crown. To get there, start from Castele Square, head west past the Guild Office, and into the Shopping District. Keep following the street until you pass a big tree in the middle of the road, then head down the stairs. The Crown is the rowdy tavern on your right. Head inside, and you'll find Cervantes, all decked out in armor, standing near the stage. Chat with him, and he'll give you the lowdown on being a Mercenary and hand you a Novice’s Claymore.
  2. 2
Next up, you need to talk to Bard, the bartender at The Crown. He'll give you your first real mission: sort out some trouble at Giles’s Farm. Apparently, another Mercenary is already on the job, so you'll be working as a team.
  3. 3
Head out of The Crown, and you'll immediately run into your partner, Jude. Seems he hasn't made it to the farm yet, so you'll need to get some info from him.
  4. 4
Jude isn't exactly the most competent, but with you here, things should improve. First, you both need to learn how to use that Novice’s Claymore.
  5. 5
To do that, you'll head to the field in West Castele. From The Crown, go west again, past the big fountain, and take the exit to West Castele. Once there, follow the path south, past the Airship Dock, and then turn left towards a wooden bridge. The Proving Stone is just across it.
  6. 6
When you get there, Jude will try and fail to hit the Proving Stone. Just when he's about to give up, a swordsman named Miguel shows up and teaches you the Greatsword Skill. Now you can actually use greatswords!
  7. 7
Before you can smash anything, you need to equip your Novice’s Claymore. Go to the Gear section in your Menu and equip it. Once you're geared up, talk to Miguel again.
  8. 8
Now for the fun part: breaking the Proving Stone! Get close to it and press the A button to draw your greatsword, then press A again to swing. You can do a three-hit combo by just pressing A repeatedly while standing still, or a dash attack by moving and then pressing A. Smash that stone to bits!
  9. 9
With your newfound smashing skills, it's time to head to Giles farm in South Castele. Go back to the main path before the wooden bridge and follow it south all the way into South Castele. Giles's Farm is to the east. Run east until you reach the crossroads with the Save crystal, then head north-east a bit.
  10. 10
At the farm, you'll find the problem: a bunch of carrot-like enemies called Carrotys are causing chaos!
  11. 11
Jude is pretty useless here, so it's all on you. Draw your greatsword and take down the three Carrotys. Try to keep your distance since your greatsword has a decent range.
  12. 12
After dealing with the Carrotys, head back to The Crown in the Shopping District. Go north to Castele Square, then west to the Shopping District. Talk to Bard again.
  13. 13
Bard has another job for you, and this one's tougher: a fearsome Razorbeak! Cervantes will quickly teach you the Full Swing skill to help you out.
  14. 14
The Razorbeak is in the same spot as the Proving Stone, so head back to West Castele, go south, and cross the wooden bridge to the west.
  15. 15
When you arrive, Jude will actually join you this time! You'll also get an HP Potion from Miguel, which is super handy if you take a hit. Use it from your Item menu or Pouch if you need to heal. The Razorbeak is tougher than the Carrotys, but it's just one enemy. Take your time and use the Full Swing skill by holding down the A button (when your weapon is drawn) to unleash a powerful attack.
Tips
  • Don't forget to equip your Novice's Claymore before you try to break the Proving Stone!
  • The Greatsword has good range for a melee weapon, so use it to your advantage against the Carrotys.
  • If you get low on health against the Razorbeak, don't be afraid to use that HP Potion Miguel gave you.
  • Mastering the basic attacks and the Full Swing skill will make these early fights much easier.
