Learn how to gather resources in Fantasy Life, including mining, woodcutting, fishing, and tackling boss nodes. Master skills, use the right tools, and find sweet spots for maximum yield.
This guide covers resource gathering in Fantasy Life, detailing mechanics for mining, woodcutting, and fishing. It explains how to use skills, tools, and special techniques to maximize your yield from various nodes and creatures.
Mining
To gather ore deposits, you need the Mining skill and a Pickaxe. Press the A button to target a deposit and again to strike it. Striking consumes SP; ensure you have enough. Deposits have "sweet spots" that can be found by circling the deposit with the Circle Pad. Striking a sweet spot produces a distinctive sound and deals more damage. Once a deposit reaches 0 HP, press A to gather the ore. Overkilling a deposit (dealing significantly more damage than its remaining HP) results in an "Excellent" message and yields more ore.
Tree-cutting
Certain trees can be cut down with the Woodcutting skill and an Axe. The process is identical to mining ore.
Boss Ore and Trees
Special boss ores and trees are tougher to gather from and often drop a Bounty. They also heal HP automatically, making it crucial to deal enough damage quickly. Boss nodes can change their sweet spot's position after being hit a few times, indicated by a chime and shimmer. Finding the new sweet spot is essential.
Fishing
Preparations
Fishing requires the Fishing skill and a Fishing Rod. After casting, wait for a fish to hook, indicated by exclamation marks over your lure. Press A at the moment the fish bites to perform a Counter Hook, dealing more damage. Pulling too early or too late will require you to try again.
The Battle
Hold the A button to deplete the fish's HP. Monitor the tension gauge; if it reaches the end, your line will snap. Release the A button to reduce tension. Fish slowly restore HP, so a high Fishing skill is important. Fish can get angry, increasing tension faster. To counter this, point the Circle Pad in the direction indicated by double arrows over your character. Boss fish have more HP and get angry more easily.
Tip for Gatherers
Resources respawn after sleeping until the next day. For non-boss resources, visiting two different areas in succession before returning can also make them reappear.
