After defeating Psycho Mantis, find the hidden exit and navigate the dangerous Canyons. Learn how to deal with the wolves and find Meryl.

Alright, you've just dealt with Psycho Mantis – nice work! He's actually going to help you out after the fight, showing you a secret way out of the Commander's room and giving you a heads-up on what's next.

Once the cutscene wraps up, take that secret exit Mantis pointed out. You'll go down some small stairs. Before you head through the door at the bottom, take a moment to check the area beside the stairs. There's some extra ammo and a ration waiting for you there. Grab them, then go through the door to the north.

You'll emerge into a new area: The Canyons.

As soon as you enter, Snake and Meryl will hear some unsettling wolf-dog noises. Meryl, being Meryl, will run off ahead, leaving you to handle things solo for now. From where you start, head north and crawl under a grating. This leads you to an open area where those wolves you heard are waiting. They're aggressive, so you'll need to either avoid them or use a stun grenade to briefly incapacitate them, giving you a window to escape the area. It's pretty dark here, so consider equipping your Thermal or Night Vision goggles to get a better look around.

After crawling under that initial ledge, make your way north, sticking to the right side. Veer right when you can, then head down. Toss a stun grenade or two to keep those dogs off your back. Once you reach the southern part of this section, you'll spot two more crawl spaces. One is in the south corner, and the other is to your right. The one in the south corner has a couple of stun grenades inside, but you should ignore that one and take the crawl space to the right. This will lead you to another open area.

Run forward a bit, and you'll meet up with Meryl again. She's waiting for you by the gate that leads to the next area. She'll have a comment about Snake's attitude towards the dogs. When you regain control, grab the ration next to the gate and head through it when you're ready to move on.
