Alright, this is it – the big spoiler section. What happens here totally depends on whether you caved during Ocelot's torture sequence. If you didn't mash those buttons like your life depended on it (because it kinda did!), you'll find out Meryl is dead. Otacon will show up to help you escape, and he'll stick with you for the rest of the game.

But hey, if you toughed it out and survived the torture, Meryl will be alive and well! You'll both stick together for the final push, with Otacon providing support from the facility.

After the cutscenes wrap up and you're back in control of Snake, you'll see a 9-minute timer pop up. Your partner will start heading off – don't follow them right away! Turn around and head back through the small door behind you. You'll find a Ration in there, which is super important since you've lost all your items. Grab it, then run after your partner. They'll get caught by a camera, and some guards will rush in.

Your main job now is to hold off those guards until your partner can get the jeep started. The quickest way to deal with them is to go for quick chokes. Once your partner has the jeep ready, don't worry about the guards – just make a break for the jeep. Get in, and then shoot the barrels next to the blocked path to clear the way forward.
