Learn how to get married in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. Use the encyclopedia to find a partner, check their stats, and win their affection for a lasting legacy.

The marriage system in Bannerlord is essential for retaining your legacy and continuing to play after your character dies. Without an heir, you cannot continue playing. It is therefore essential to find a marriage partner relatively early on and oversee your children's development.

Use the Encyclopedia to Find a Marriage Partner:

Press the “N” button to open the encyclopedia. Select the Heroes tab to see a list of significant people in Calradia. You can refine your search by Relation, Gender, Status (Alive or Dead), Culture (Vlandia, Sturgia, Khuzait, Empire, Battania, Aserai, Vakken, Nord, Darshi), Occupation (Wanderer, Noble, Faction Leader), and Marital Status (Married or Not Married).

How to Choose a Good Marriage Partner:

Search for people who are alive and not married. By default, you cannot marry someone of the same sex, but mods can change this. To gain influence in a particular faction, search for nobles within that faction. You can inspect a prospective partner's attributes, skills, clan, culture, occupation, age, and base relation rating in their encyclopedia entry. The relation rating can be improved by speaking with them and performing favors.

The encyclopedia entry also includes a brief description of their reputation (friendly, neutral, or hostile). Choose a partner whose disposition aligns with your intended behaviors to maintain relationship cohesion. Consider their Friends, Enemies, and Family to assess potential influence gains and future conflicts.

How to Win the Affection of a Potential Marriage Partner:

After introducing yourself, you need to win their affection through two sets of dialogue approval checks. The first set involves three checks related to general mutual interests and ambitions, with at least a 70%+ success rate. Dialogue options depend on your invested attributes, with green text indicating higher chances of success and red text indicating lower chances. If your success rate is consistently below 70%, try improving your skills and attributes before speaking with them.
