A comprehensive guide to all companion quests in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, including walkthroughs, rewards, and tips for The Lighted Path, The Lantern of Gaun, and more.
This guide covers all companion quests in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, detailing how to initiate and complete them, along with their rewards.
The Lighted Path (Edér)
Speak to Xoti after recruiting her in Port Maje to initiate Edér's quest. He wants to renew the acquaintance of an old flame named Elafa who joined the Children of the Dawnstars. Speak to Waenglith who tells you to ask a Dawnstar elder named Nordagand. You will find her the in Temple of Gaun in Sacred Stair. She tells you that the woman that Edér is looking for has gone to Hasongo.
After dealing with events in Hasongo, you will find Elafa's son, Bearn, among a group of Eothas worshippers. When you get him to open up, he tells you that Elafa died some years past. What he mostly wants to talk about, however, is the Partisans of the Lighted Path, a breakaway sect that he's taken up with. Edér thinks it might be an idea to check this sect out.
Back in Neketaka, speak to a Partisans recruiter, Ogne, who tells you that the "vanguards" are about to set sail to join up with Eothas. Sail after _Eothas Vanguard_. After fighting a short boarding action, head belowdecks where you will find Bosc and Bearn about to drink poison. Dissuade him (or revive him after he drinks it) and then drop him off back in Hasongo.
Reward: +5 Will (Edér), 1060 XP.
The Lantern of Gaun (Xoti)
When travelling with Xoti, allow her to harvest the spirits that you meet:
- In Gorecci Street after dealing with a group of looters
- At the Engwithan Digsite after severing Eothas's connection to the adra pillar
- At Vilario's Rest in the section reached through the Sea Cave
- In the Old City Overlook after reading Bitaro's Soul
- In the Animancy Lab in Arkemyr's Manor after reading the soul of Ifren's associate
- In Delver's Row while pursuing Pallegina's companion quest
- In Oathbinder's Sanctum
- In Motare o Kōzi
After three or four harvested souls, Xoti will want to discuss her nightmares. Afterwards, she suggests that a cleansing ritual might do her good. Head to the Temple of Gaun in Sacred Stair where Xoti will do her thing and then talk to you afterwards.
The next time you rest after the cleansing, Xoti will have another nightmare. She tells you that she is supposed to shepherd lost souls to a successful rebirth, not merely harvest them. You figure that you can have her release the souls into a luminous adra pillar or give them to the animancers.
Go to Spire of the Soul-Seers in The Sacred Stair and have Xoti release the souls or keep them.
Reward: Luminous Adra Mantle, 1350 XP.
The Painted Masks (Aloth)
When you arrive in Neketaka, Aloth will want to speak to you. He tells you of his efforts to track the remnants of the Leaden Key but is gives no further details at this time.
After completing the _Distant Light_ main quest and with Relationship 1 (harder that it sounds with Aloth), speak to Aloth again. He tells you that he has learned of a Leaden Key offshoot that have operated independently for hundreds of years. When you sail to Ori o Koīki, you will come across a stricken vessel. Clues point you towards the nearby island. When you meet Ruāsare, the Wahiki ranga, read her soul to learn of the long-ago encounter with Thaos ix Arkannon that led to their policy of isolationsim.
Talk to Aloth about it. Depending on how you answer, Aloth will receive either the _Adaptive_ ability (-1s cooldown when switching grimoires) or the _Persistent_ ability (+1 Concentration when critically hit).
Reward: New ability (Aloth), 1150 XP.
A Sorcerer and a Gentleman (Serafen)
Serafen will speak to you in Fort Deadlight about an old comrade named Remaro who's being hunted by the Príncipi. You will find a letter in Remaro's old room which mentions someone named Udyne in Neketaka. When you reach Neketaka, you will be accosted by Malnaj, the hunter tasked with tracking Remaro down; don't tell her that Remaro was looking for Udyne.
When you reach Neketaka, find Udyne in the Luminous Bathhouse and question her to learn that Remaro sailed to Sayuka.
When you reach Sayuka, find Remaro and hear his side of the story to learn that he mutinied because his captain was secretly trading slaves. Speak to Serafen afterwards to get his take on things.
Reward: Fire in the Hole blunderbuss, 1350 XP.
Tekēhu
Tekēhu does nor have a personal quest. However, conversations steer him towards or away from becoming a leader of the Huana:
- Before recruiting him
- Immediately after recruiting him
- After completing Trade Secrets
- After completing The Shadow Under Neketaka
- After starting Act 3.
Courier's Calling (Maia)
When your relationship reaches 1, Maia will want to speak to you. It seems that she has some missives that need to be delivered to Harama in Tikawara and Tuaha in Port Maje.
When you next sail to Port Maje, you will find Tuaha near the Kraken's Eye. Give her the missives. You may want to deal with her "stalker" first.
When you reach Tikawara, you will find Harama facing down an angry mob. With good reputation or speech skills you can defuse the situation. Alternatively, you can attack the mob (or they may attack first). Note that if things turn violent, Harama may very well not survive, although this does not cause the mission to fail. Whatever the outcome, Maia will want to report back to Atsura in The Brass Citadel.
The next time you return to the Brass Citadel, Maia will temporarily leave the party to take care of some company business. When she returns, speak to her and then report to Atsura.
Reward: Three Bells Through arquebus, 1350 XP.
The Man of Chimes (Pallegina)
As you approach the Spire of the Soul Seers in The Sacred Stair, Pallegina tells you that she wants to catch up with Giacolo, an animancer and an old acquaintance. Flaune Elette tells you that might find him in his room in The Hole.
Make to your way to The Hole and go upstairs to find Giacolo's room trashed. Speak to Fyrna downstairs who tells you that a bunch of godlike pirates dragged him out.
Follow the trail to Delver's Row where you will find the remains of one of the pira
