Discover the six playable races and their subraces in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Learn about their unique racial talents, attribute bonuses, and how they impact gameplay.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire features six distinct character races, each with multiple subraces offering unique bonuses and abilities. Choosing the right race and subrace can significantly impact your character's strengths and playstyle.

Human

Humans are divided into three playable subraces: Meadow Folk, Ocean Folk, and Savannah Folk. A potential companion belongs to the Storm Folk subrace. All human subraces share the same racial talent:

  • Fighting Spirit: When the character's Endurance falls below 50%, they gain +7 Accuracy and +15% damage.

Aumaua

The towering Aumaua have two subraces: Coastal and Island.

  • Towering Physique (Coastal Aumaua): Resistant to Might Afflictions.
  • Among the Waves (Island Aumaua): Can move at normal speed through Slog Zones (water, mud, and similar hindering conditions).

Dwarf

Dwarfs are divided into two subraces: Mountain and Boreal.

  • Hale and Hearty (Mountain Dwarfs): Resistant to Constitution Afflictions.
  • Hunter's Instincts (Boreal Dwarfs): Gain 50% Miss to Graze against Primordial and Wilder enemies.

Elf

Elves have two subraces: Wood and Pale.

  • Wily Step (Wood Elves): Resistant to Dexterity Afflictions.
  • Elemental Endurance (Pale Elves): Gain +4 Armor Rating against Burn and Freeze.

Godlike

Godlike have four playable subraces: Death, Fire, Moon, and Nature. Companions Pallegina (Avian Godlike) and Tekēhu (Marine Godlike), and sidekick Vatnir (Endings Godlike from the Beast of Winter expansion) are examples. Godlike cannot equip helmets due to their cranial growths.

  • Death's Usher (Death Godlike): Inflict +20% damage against enemies at 25% or lower Endurance.
  • Pallid Fate (Death Godlike): Gain +3 Power Levels when Near Death or below.
  • Battle Forged (Fire Godlike): When reduced to below 50% Health, inflict 2-4 Burn damage against melee attackers and gain +1 AR. Burn damage scales with Might.
  • Ashen Skin (Fire Godlike): Gain +2 Burn Armor Rating.
  • Silver Tide (Moon Godlike): Once per encounter, when reduced to 75%, 50%, and 25% Health, project an aura that restores 10 Health to nearby party members. Healing scales with Power Level.
  • Wellspring of Life (Nature Godlike): Gain +1 Power Level while under the effects of any Strength, Constitution, or Dexterity Inspiration.
  • Vigilant Quarry (Avian Godlike): Resistant to Perception and Intellect Afflictions.
  • Wave Walker (Marine Godlike): Immune to Water Attacks, extinguish Fire attacks every 6s, and immune to Slog Zone effects.
  • Child of the Void (Endings Godlike): Receive +5 defense against Affliction attacks.
  • Plague Host (Endings Godlike): When Bloodied or Near Death, nearby enemies may become Sickened (vs. Fortitude every 6s).

Orlan

The diminutive Orlan have two subraces: Hearth and Wild.

  • Minor Threat (Hearth Orlan): When attacking the same enemy as an ally, gain 10% Hit to Crit.
  • Defiant Resolve (Wild Orlan): Resistant to Resolve Afflictions.
