Alright, so you're looking to snag yourself a Froakie in Pokémon Legends: Z-A? Good choice! This little guy can be found in a couple of different ways, and I'll walk you through both. It's not super straightforward, but totally doable once you know where to look.

First up: Side Mission 009, 'A Challenge from Froakie'.

As soon as you unlock side missions, head to the far northeast corner of the city. You'll find Froakie chilling near the bottom of some scaffolding. When you talk to it, Froakie will challenge you to a series of three obstacle courses. The first two are right there, but the third one is a bit further out. If you get lost, just open your map, hit X to see your missions, and turn on the guidance for this one.

These courses are timed and can be a little tricky, especially the first roll you have to make across a gap. My advice? Stay calm, take your time with the jumps, and you'll get through them. Once you beat all three, Froakie will join your party as a reward!

Next: Wild Zone 16.

This one opens up after you complete Main Mission 24. You'll get access to Wild Zones 16 and 17, and Froakie hangs out in Wild Zone 16. Specifically, you'll find it perched right on top of the central monument there. Keep an eye out for the map marker!

Now, Froakie in the wild is super skittish. It'll bolt the second it sees you, making it a real pain to catch. Plus, there are usually a bunch of other wild Pokémon around that can get in your way. Don't worry if Froakie runs off while you're dealing with them – it's pretty normal. Just head towards the monument, find some tall grass to hide in, and wait it out.

After about a minute, a new Froakie should spawn. Your best bet is to aim high and throw a Poké Ball when it's not looking to get a back strike. A Quick Ball would be super useful here if you have one. If you miss, or if it runs away, just repeat the process. You can even stick around and catch more if you want!

A quick note on Mega Evolution:

To really get the most out of Froakie, you'll want to evolve it all the way to Greninja and then get the Greninjite mega stone. The only way to snag that stone is by reaching Rank K in Season 1 of Ranked Battles, which wraps up around November 5th, 2025. Don't let Ranked Battles scare you; you don't need to win a ton to rank up, and it should only take you about an hour to get the stone. Just keep at it!
