Learn how to defeat the Lunatic Cultist in Terraria. This guide covers its stats, attacks, phases, and strategies for preparation and combat.
Stats / Weaknesses:
- HP: 32,000 (Normal Mode) / 40,000 (Expert Mode)
- Defense: 42 (Normal Mode) / 27 (less than 50% HP)
- Attacks: Melee (50/75 damage), Shadow Fireball (36/72), Ice Mist (70/100), Fireball (60/80), Lightning Orb (90/120), Ancient Light (120/160), Ancient Doom (30/45)
Phases:
- The Lunatic Cultist attacks with one of three abilities: a burst of three fireballs, a slow-moving ice shard ball that fires shards, or an orb that fires lightning bolts.
- After a few attacks, the Cultist duplicates itself. The clones fly in formation and use homing shadow fireball attacks. Only attack the real Cultist. Attacking a clone will summon a Phantasm Dragon.
- To distinguish the real Cultist: use a Hunter Potion, look for a missing line on the fake Cultist's hood, or note that only the real Cultist emits light at night.
- If a clone is attacked, kill the summoned Phantasm Dragon immediately. Each time a clone is attacked, the number of clones summoned in subsequent phases increases.
Strategy:
- Prepare an arena, potentially using your pre-Hardmode Skeletron arena.
- Use a Hunter Potion to easily identify the real Cultist.
- Focus attacks on the true Cultist; avoid damaging clones to prevent summoning Phantasm Dragons.
- If a Phantasm Dragon is summoned, prioritize defeating it quickly.
- Be aware that the number of clones increases with each successful clone attack.
Drops:
- Normal Mode: Coins (10g), Ancient Manipulator (100%), Ancient Cultist Mask (14.29%), Ancient Cultist Trophy (10%), Greater Healing Potions (5-15) (100%)
- Expert Mode: Coins (25g)
- Master Mode: Tablet Fragment (25%), Lunatic Cultist Relic (100%)
Note: The Lunatic Cultist does not drop an Expert Mode treasure bag, despite one existing in the game files.
After defeating the Lunatic Cultist, the Celestial Pillars will appear, initiating a new event.
